Hello from Riga!
Some 35 years ago as a teenager I learned the first three chords on a steel string guitar. Since then all my development was to accompany drinking songs at the parties and lead these sad, slow Latvian folksongs when sitting around the fire.
There were many „spanish” and even „flamencoish”, if I may say so, pieces in my PC playlist, like Gipsy Kings, Armik, Ottmar Liebert and so on. This was sufficient for me for many years. But then some 3 months ago I ocassionally saw 2 pieces from local flamenco dance club and this suddenly hit me really strong. I felt I need to get more familiar with this music and try to play flamenco guitar as well. So, the search process sooner or later brings everyone to this forum. I am glad to see this big and friendly commune, full with great people, so generously sharing their experience and knowledge.
The answers I got from the foro history on „beginners guitar” question were basically theree- 1) Get cheap, but somewhat playable guitar, 2) get expensive guitar to not invest again very soon 3) get good, but used guitar. I opted for the last and now I have Antonio Sanchez 1018. Its still the beginners guitar, but at least I felt much better with it than new Alhambra 3F which I tried in one of music shops there.
It has action on 12th fret almost 4mm, which seems a bit much for flamenco, but on other hand - my slow, sad folksongs also sound great without too much buzzing :) .
Now I am on 2nd video lesson from Orhan Anafarta, practising picado at slow, slow speeds and listening, listening, listening all these great guys, which some few month ago I didnt knew they even exist(ed). Again - the foro is full of brilliants, I am very thankful for all the suggestions coming each day.

Ivars

You are in good hands (literally) with Orhan. [:D]
