A bit off-flamenco-topic, but tonight I retrieved my bass guitar from the loft. It's been in its case through house moves to five countries without even being opened. Last time it was played was about 1987.

30 years and it is still pretty much in tune. The batteries for the active pickups were a bit shabby and I know bass strings are under a lot less tension, but even so...

Morante

Does it sound okay acoustically or is the good sound being helped by active pickups?

30 years ago active basses were a bit of a rarity. I looked on jealously with my tacky Aria Pro 2. Pretty thick strings in comparison to classicals/flamencos so not a complete surprise.

Not sure I could play a bass now with grown out nails..... although I did play with a plectrum sometimes just to improve response.

Life has certainly changed, but I keeping the strings and the guitar just as they are, at least until I have played through a back line.

I remember our time in Jerez well enough and I am glad that we are still alive and happy. At least, that is my poor understanding of Spanish nowadays.

Hugs

The batteries are dead (of course), but it sounds ok through my amps without active. Although, they are not bass amps. Might buy a Fender one soon enough.

It's a Weston Thunder 1A, by the same designer as the Aria Pro II.

I used to use a plectrum but flamenco has helped me with the fingers, so I am still deciding on that.

How is the neck? Still straight?

Considering I didn't detune when it went into the case, it appears to be straight but I will be stripping it down for cleaning and setup. Apparently, some bass guitarists really like the very old string sound.
