Idris de la Isla -> Hello before I make my way to Spain (Jun. 30 2017 18:03:53)

Hello all!

After visiting Spain for the first time in January, I’ve become very interested in flamenco. For this reason, I joined the forum with the hopes of discussing flamenco more with others. I assume this is mainly a forum for guitar players, and sadly I can neither play guitar, sing, nor dance, but nevertheless I sincerely want to learn more and cultivate aficion.

Since I’m new to the flamenco scene, I wouldn’t say that I have favorites, but right now I’m listening to this Repompa de Malaga/Antonio el Chaqueta split LP with Paco Aguilera and Antonio Arenas respectively on guitar. I’m also currently reading, with some reservations about its arguments, Timothy Mitchell’s Flamenco Deep Song.

As for my first question, I’m returning to Spain in about a week, and I was wondering if anyone could suggest places to hear flamenco in Madrid and Cadiz. Although it may be a figment of my novice imagination, I’m really looking for a place that looks like the sesions a puertas cerradas that I see on the old episodes of Rito y Geografia. Suggestions about other cities may be helpful, but as for now, I know I will be in those two towns for the longest.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
