I just polish a new guitar (Bodying) and am frightened!
White lines in the form of a crack can be seen on the back on both sides (Bookmatched) in the waist. The line follows the grain direction.
The wood is Padauk. It does not seem to be really a crack more like a scratch in the FP.
Is this a mineral inclusion or a Crack in the raw wood before resaw?

Here are some pictures:
1.) Sand with Micromesh 1800 side view
2.) same with magnifying glass
3.) after a bodying season
4.) perpendicular to the surface

Ok, its definitely a Crack.
When I force the plate and use a magnifying glass i can see it opens.

ahh, that sucks major. Try to get some thin hot hide glue into the joint and it will be fixed, invisible and stronger than before. So, there is hope.
Padouk cracks very easily.

I'm not sure if hide glue is thin enough to penetrate the crack.
For "normal " cracks it's my first choice!

Maybe I should use some thin CA Glue for better penetration (capillary action).
Additionally I can glue a nice patch in shape of the lining on both sides (cross grain).

First gluing the crack than gluing the patch?

CA glue is acceptable on Rosewood, and other hardwoods. But don't need to back a crack like that.

However if you ca wiggle the crack you can glue it with hide glue. You have to put it on with a finger and then work it in. Wipe it of and then work more hot glue in. You can work a hide glue crack like that for several minutes if need be. Then put a plexiglass caul over the crack and lightly clamp it ensure the seam is flush. Let it sit over night. Then cleat it on the inside the next day. Make sure you remove the glue film off the finish and sand is with micro stuff.

build the shellac slowly over it because too much alcohol can wet the crack and reopen it.
