No stress here. Just fun.

What's the worst nail for you to lose/lose use of due to damage?

I work in a kind of manual environment and the one I break the most is my pulgar. Annoying, but usually salvageable to some extent. But the other day I had a small split in my anular nail and didn't tend to it quick enough... Then a few mins later I caught it on something and just took it completely off right at the base. The weirdest feeling trying to play. First time I've lost this mail completely in 13/14 years .

I think this is the worst nail for me to lose. Golpes are impossible. tremolo? No. And any thing really with the anular is over.

My thumb is gonna be getting a work out

For me the worst is the thumb. I can more or less get a regular sound out of the other fingers (sure the golpes are dampened but that doesn't bother me that much) but not with the thumb. Just can't get that clic without the nail.

Definitely my left foot pinky nail. Nailed it on a CIA rock at the beach once. I died.

Haha. Nice Fred, wasnt expecting that.
What's a CIA rock though??

I sliced off the nail and a bit of my fretting index finger whilst chopping spinach. Very painful and impossible to play anything for three weeks. [:o]

I sometimes deliberately trim my nails (except pulgar) fairly short to try and train precision with my thick fleshy fingers (picado and tremolo). I once punched out my middle finger nail at a party while playing, it just got cut off clean. a fleshy golpe is actually nice as well (in case of losing the ring finger nail) so I wouldn't mind that that much, but you need a punchy picado sound, which is impossible when losing index/middle finger nails. But I think the worst nail to lose is the thumb nail, which I haven't manage to break until now, thank God.

Ha Simon! , I did exactly the same slicing bread. An hr before class. Didn't fancy going in that day anyway. :)

I had been playing guitar for 1 month when I had to cut my grandfather's hedge with an electric hedge trimmer, and cut into the middle finger of my fretting hand. Part of my finger was hanging on by not much more than skin and it took years for the nerves to reattach into that part. The damage is still obvious today, and it makes me have to be very precise with that finger when fretting, so as not to mute adjacent stings.

Two months ago, I was fixing a mountain bike puncture in the woods and caught under my right hand thumbnail with a spoke as I was using tyre levers. I lost a mm or so of attachment but didn't break my nail. Gonna take a while before it feels the same again.

I think the only way to stop me playing is to remove my head.
