Hello! My name's Emily, I'm new here. Hope all is well. I'm a big flamenco aficionada who just got back from Jerez. I had the pure luck of being placed there to teach English last year, and went back this year purely to learn more baile y cante flamenco. I love the baile and there are a lot of opportunities to dance it here in NYC. But I'm more passionate about singing flamenco, which is hard to find here! I'm wondering if there is any Flamenco guitar players in the NYC area who would like to practice guitar along with me practicing singing? Hey if we're good we can even perform in the streets!

I was literally just thinking the other day "there's hardly anyone on the foro from NY"
Just getting back from Jerez myself for the festival we're you there???, waiting for transfer at Boston airport, btw what kind of airport makes you wait outside in the snow for a trolley to another terminal??? Ugh.....
Anyhow, good luck with the search too bad your not in LA.
Welcome to the foro!

Ahh too bad! Let me know if you know any NYC Flamenco people. Yeah I was there half-way through the festival, but I had been living there since December so had to leave beginning of March (no visa). I love Jerez it's like a second home!!

I'm in the NYC area. Where about are you?

eweinsc1 -> RE: Flamenco guitarrista NYC (Mar. 16 2017 22:38:25)

I'm on Long Island but I'm in the city a lot. How about you?

Adam -> RE: Flamenco guitarrista NYC (Mar. 17 2017 2:11:25)

I'm in Philly (originally from LI though!) and usually need to go up to NYC for my flamenco fix. Last weekend and this weekend there are a few good shows at Joe's Pub for the flamenco festival. You'll definitely meet guitarists by going to concerts. It's a pretty good flamenco city all in all. If you find yourself down in Philly and want a guitarrist to practice singing with, let me know!

Hey Eweinsc1,

I'm on Long Island as well, Glen Cove, where are you?

I know most of the people in NYC that are working pros. I am confused how you can admit there to be "lots of opportunity" to dance flamenco in NYC, but don't know these people already???? I recommend Jose Moreno in New Jersey as someone that sings, plays cajon and guitar and dances pro to meet up with as he will put you in the right direction for what you need.

There are a lot of opportunities that I have heard of, but that doesn't mean that I have had time or money to take them. And I just got back 2 weeks ago, I haven't had time to meet all of the people! Thanks for the suggestion about Jose moreno

In the audio/video upload section. Either upload an MP3 there or simply link to a Youtube clip for video.

ah ok here's a little cante i did in jerez...was nervous and a bit tipsy from the oloroso but bueno mejor que nada!

Leñador -> RE: Flamenco guitarrista NYC (Mar. 17 2017 18:54:09)

Hey Ole tu! One of the best I've heard from a 'merican! And the only thing braver thing than posting your flamenco on YouTube is doing it live in Jerez. It took me many amontillados and coaxing to play when I was there. Everyone was really polite though, the singer gave me a polite smile when it was time to give the guitar back to the pro. Haha He actually thought I wouldn't get that far which was flattering enough for me.[:D]

You sound like an Iberian when you speak Spanish

Wow that was really brave and pretty good too! Viva Jerez!

eweinsc1 -> RE: Flamenco guitarrista NYC (Mar. 17 2017 20:59:26)

Haha gracias a vosotros yes many amotillados were consumed. This video I uploaded to YouTube just to share it here. Yeah its no where near perfect and my compás was a bit off, but this is why I want to stick with it!

mark74 -> RE: Flamenco guitarrista NYC (Mar. 17 2017 21:19:24)

I hope I didnt scare this girl away with my questions about Camela...lo dije en broma chica...

rombsix -> RE: Flamenco guitarrista NYC (Mar. 24 2017 21:55:48)

Hi Emily - I live in New Haven. I am NOT a pro. [:D] I usually play solo flamenco guitar. [8D] I'm going to NYC tomorrow to dance Argentine tango (oh, the heresy!) all night long (literally). Perhaps we can meet up at the milonga? [8D] I can bring my guitar. Flamenco and Argentine tango in my mind are very similar. Vamos y Olé! [:D]

I'm going to be in NYC again this week. Perhaps send me a private message through this forum if you'd like to meet up.

Cheers!
