AllThumbs -> Greetings from windy England (Jan. 10 2017 2:22:50)

I've wanted to play guitar since I was 12 years old. I worked my way through various strumming styles and hit upon picking in my late teens. I mainly played folk, or kids songs for our children. I'm very below average. [;)]

I was looking for something musical to do now I'm older/retired, heard some Flamenco and shortly thereafter saw that there were actually books to learn this wonderful music. I'm an autodidact, so I decided this will fill my time nicely along with a few other hobbies I have..

I bought a book by Juan Martin and a cheap Valencia Classical (I only owned a Folk/Steel strung at the time) and discovered that I know nothing at all. [8|]

I have had my fingers tripping over eachother for around a month now and I'm loving it. The 'music' still sounds pretty poor, but every now and again I get a dozen bars right and it's joyous. Even the bad bits are fun. Since I have no desire to be 'special', I just enjoy everything these days.

I have a few more books on their way now just so I get extra pieces to practice, as I feel I'm going to be on 'Grade 0' for quite a while.

Money was given to me in lieu of gifts this holiday season, it turned out to be a fair amount so I have ordered a decent starter Flamenco guitar from Amazon Spain and it will be making it's way over to me sometime this week. I read up/watched videos about the qualities of reasonable instruments before I chose it.

I'm sure everyone will hear how I get on with it at some point, but the Guitar and I are going to be inseparable for a few years which won't make my wife happy at night...

(Oh - my 'actual' name is Connor, in case anyone prefers those to nicknames.)

What guitar did you order?

Please feel free to ask us any questions you have, and we will make sure to keep the sarcastic replies to a minimum. [8D] No, really, you'll find a pretty awesome bunch here.

And here's a welcoming gift.

Olé! [:D]

I ordered a Francisco Molina from Granada for the solid spruce/cypress build and because it just looks so beautiful.

I may be experiencing my first ever emotional feelings for a guitar.

[:)]

Thank you for the welcome and the wonderful music.

Welcome AllThumbs. Great looking guitar there. Where abouts in Lancashire are you? There's quite a flamenco scene just down the road in Manchester.

Up on the Pennines. I avoid Manchester, mainly owing to the gridlock, roadworks and the insane one way system. [;)]
