Hi,

I would like to ask which wood(s) do traditional flamenco guitar makers in Spain use for the neck? I was told Spanish cedar. But then I was also told Spanish cedar is not native to Spain or even Europe.

Indeed Spanish Cedar it is. It mainly comes from South America. It can also be found in Africa too.

As Seden said.
In Spain they call it "cedrela" and in fact the bothanical name is cedrela odorata, a kind of light mahogany species (it's also called Cuban mahogany if I remember properly).
In other countries some builders alternateviley use a heavier mahogany but Maybe it's not a good idea for a light flamenco guitar.

Most 'Cuban cedar' comes from Central America, Guatamala, Honduras etc. The other mahogany species are variable in weight and density.There are many older guitars that can have either 'Cuban cedar" necks or mahogany necks- but probably more odorata cedrella. Mahogany can be light in color or reddish or brown and on lot's of older guitars it can be difficult to tell one from the other.

I had a lot of beautiful mahogany garnered from the window frames of an old courthouse that some terrorist hippies blew up in the late 60's. It made excellent stable necks but when I ran out of that the only mahogany I could find was much more heavy and less stable. We've used nothing but Spanish Cedar since then.
