Try practising simple 8th offbeats notes :

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 :

metronome on 1,2,3,4 with your foot on the beat to help and you're playing the "&".

Next 16th offbeats notes, the one juste after the beat and the one just before the beat :

1 ' & ' 2 ' & ' 3 ' & ' 4

metronome on 1,2,3,4 with your foot on the beat to help and you're playing the simple quote " ' ".

A great video from victor wooten to help you with these :

Basically once you have the "feel" for it is not so difficult.

Take whatever passage you're having trouble with and play it slow.

A video is 10000 words. Can you upload something ?
Maybe there is something confusing with the phrasing.
If there is going super slow will definitely highlight it.

Cheers

Best way to tighten things up is loop small phrases perhaps no more than 2 or 3 clicks in length, over and over focus on grooving with it until you iron out the wrinkles, AT TEMPO. Maybe a little bit slower if there is a technical challenge, but you want the thing to feel right and slow tempos are simply different feeling. Perhaps add on another phrase to that one you have working....but when ever you notice something off, don't keep repeating the longer phrase, just isolate and loop it as before. Often when doing this I discover one or two notes are simply the problem, making them feel right and natural is the key. Our brains will assign notes to specific timings and sometimes they are on the wrong "track" so to speak, so you need to drill them back on track in your mind.

Thanks, friends!

I can recommend one of my videos with some flamenco rhythmical schemes.
If you learn how to pronounce them (similar to indian konnakol) with clapping and play it with a suitable type of rasgueado, after some time you will understand better how to avoid destroying rhythmical pulse.
