aqualibguitars -> white cedar as tonewood (Oct. 27 2016 13:28:03)

Hello friends. hope everyone is doing fine.
i got a good source for white cedar back and sides and neck blanks.
want to know the difference between port orford cedar and white cedar
and can white cedar be used for Classical and flamenco and acoustic guitars or the necks of these types of guitars?
waiting for ur advice

You can compare the characteristics here:

http://www.wood-database.com/northern-white-cedar/

http://www.wood-database.com/port-orford-cedar/

It looks like white cedar is much softer than port orford and close to western red cedar.
So maybe ok for a top but that's all. I work with wood but not a luthier so others may have a better answer.
