Blondie#2 -> Ben Woods' rumba pattern (Sep. 26 2016 19:31:11)

Check out Ben's rumba at 2.32.

Could one of you rumba gurus (Ramzi I did have a look at your videos for this but couldn't find an answer) please explain Ben's rumba pattern, specifically how he does the funky mute on 3.

To me it looks like:

one: P down + golpe
and: P up
two: AM down
and: P up
three: (mute)
and: I up
four: I down
and: I up

For the mute I thought he was doing the move where you flick out your fingers whilst muting the strings with the palm/side edge, but in the video I can't see him doing any palm muting, his hand doesn't seem to be 'flattening out' across the strings, even if played at slow speed.

1- p down + golpe am
2- p up
3- ami down
4- p up
5- mute
6- i up
7- i down
8- i up

Yes, he was doing precisely that, just very economically and fast, so you couldn't see much "flattening".

If you watch it at half speed you should be able to see motion in his wrist moving towards the soundboard as he is leading up to the mute in the close-up hand shots.

Cheers guys, basically I had it right then. You're right Ramzi, his hand is very economical.
