Here is my own anthology or "best of" paco. Or it could be Volume 3 to go with the other 2, so I won't repeat what they had. This is in order by date. Rondena (r. montoya) (EP 1964) Aires Andaluces (EP 1964) Jerez en Fiestas (w/ R. Modrego 1965) Recuerdo a Patino Impetu (Anything from Fantasia Flamenca) Plazuela (guitar sextet) Recuerdos (farruca with Pepe and dancer Raul) Doblan Companas Cuando Canta el Gallo Punta del Faro Aires Choqueros Los Pinares Cueva del Gato Plaza Alta Mediterranean Sundance (from dimeola's elegant gypsy) Montino Chanela Pinonate Aspan (w/Mclaughlin/Dimeola) La Canyada El Panyuelo Soniquete Almonte Sevillanas(duet with Manolo Sanlucar) Tracks from live in America, Luzia, and Cositas Buenas were not in the original anthology, so here are my picks: Mi nino curro La Barrosa (anything else from the live one, I like em all) Rio de Miel Calle Municion El chorruelo Camaron Patio Custodio Antonia El Dengue It is hard for me to make a "best of" as if I can easily leave off some pieces from each album, because even the pieces that I don't listen to often, I recognize as definative versions of style for that time period. For example, the different siguiriyas he has on his first album, Duende, and Luzia. Or the Tientos on the same albums, plus the one on Cositas. You can trace musical evolution through pieces like those, even if they don't "grab" you entertainment wise. You can't do that with Sabicas or Ricardo's music, nor with guys like Vicente Amigo or Gerardo. The albums of Paco I like complete are Fantasia Flamenca, Almoraima, Siroco, Live in America, every note. Ricardo

Great list. I love thoes 1964 recordings. the siguiriyas and the bulerias are killers! i saw your coment about the tientos recordings. the tientos of the "el duende" album tientos del mentideiro. what does that title meen? in the pdl DVD Documentary paco say the word Mentira at the end at it is translated to "**" and i read somewhere that Tientos meens "a little thing" or "short" "little" from the short intro guitarists use to take. so the song Tientos del Mentideiro should meen something like "a little piece of **" [:D][:D][:D] remember the piece is very short and doesn´t realy have anything special in it almost like he did it to fill up some space. only my 2 teeth. PS it could of course meen something else[:D][:D]

These are albums which I dont often hear, but they are at least good music as Fabulosa. They were recorded before Fabulosa, only except: "Canciones Andaluzas Para 2 Guitarras (1967)" Well they are really traditional, maybe that is the reason why they arent mentioned today. Mentidero might be a place in Spain, a lot of his titles have to do with places in Andalucia. It does not have any meaning related to "mentira". Ask on the Paco forum, I am sure they know what it is exactly. La Barrosa for example, is a beach near Algeciras. Or maybe I am a "mentiroso"[;)] Phrygus, yeah I meantioned the bulerias from dos guitarras en stereo with Modrego. Great stuff on that one, but the other duet albums are little bit more about fullfilling the contract with the record company. Lot's of little ideas taken and pieced together to make duets with that one album with Ramon, not bad. But you could also make a whole separate Anthology of tid bits and falsetas from his albums like that or accompanying all the different singers. As far as the other albums, playing the "hits" means, you are done with doing the artistic stuff, and just trying to boost record sales. The latin american stuff ranks up there with his collaborations with Placido, Iglesias, Bryan Adams. A bit "cheesy" for me. The albums I chose nothing for the anthology, but still enjoy, are the classical stuff (Falla, Rodrigo), Castro Marin (reworking of Solo Quiero Caminar material), the other three live albums, Teatro Real, FNISF with Al and John, and Live One Summer night. Also I love some of the cuts on Guitar Trio (96), especially where he trades with Mclaughlin (Letter from India, Midsmmer night). Again, there could be a whole other anthology of his more successful fusions and classical guitar projects. For example, they use movement I of rodrigo in the Anthology, no doubt for time restrictions. But we all know it is really the movement II that is so special, but LONG. Ricardo

Wow...don't like 2 guitars in Latin America at all. Kind of a tossed off record, I would say, and completely lacking in the aire and grace of South American music.... Richard, how did you get into the trio stuff? When I hear it, it just sounds ugly and weird. I'm sure that's because of my ignorance, I must just be lacking in experience. Do you have to be into jazz or something first? Almoraima is far and away my favorite Paco record! I like Fantasia Flamenco too. I don't really get Siroco, though.

Ricardo maybe I commented too fast. Ive only listened to "Canciones Andaluzas Para 2 Guitarras " and it was great. "12 Canciones De Garcia Lorca Para Guitarra " seems a bit "lame"? I know its very different from other Paco stuff. But there are for example 2 or 3 picado runs with an intensity and speed which I never heard of Paco. I think one was in "Roja de Celos". Another really nice tune is "Cancion del Rio", yeah that might be Latino stuff, but if Im not wrong there are also "real" flamenco tracks on that album. When I listened to Cositas Buenas, the song, I didnt like it at all. That changes at the moment, but my all time favorites are definately Fabulosa Guitarra and Siroco.

I'm listening this En vivo desde el Teatro Real man , in the granainas there is this person who cant hold his caugh ...very annoying Paco's zapateado sounds like a classica I dont know ...his guitar in aires choqueros sounds a little out of tune ?probably i'm imaginating .
