Richard Jernigan -> RE: What is that thing on Laura Gonzalez's headstock? (Jul. 27 2016 23:36:22)

I've used a couple fairly regularly, on a variety of classical and flamenco guitars. http://tinyurl.com/zn2smj3 http://tinyurl.com/z54ttka The Intellitouch is much bigger, with a larger, brighter display. The Planet Waves is smaller, and could be almost completely hidden behind the headstock. They work about the same. They are great for tuning up one of your strings within a few cents of concert pitch. If you tune the rest of the strings with the tuner, you can do a little better by ear. By "a little" I mean a very small fraction of a turn of a mechanical tuner-no more than a few cents. Every pro classical player I have seen use a headstock tuner on stage has touched up the tuning by ear, but they might just be sweetening up the tuning for the harmony of the piece they are about to play. In an environment that's even moderately noisy, I doubt that I could improve much on one of these two digital tuners by ear. RNJ
