Kiko_Roca -> Feedback request for reddit.com flamenco "space" (Jul. 19 2016 18:41:14)

For the past few years I have been trying to promote flamenco on a website called reddit.com. This site was primarily developed as a subscription-based link sharing site (not by me), but ultimately has a lot of overlap with message-boards and internet forums.

About a year ago I took on the task of being moderator there and have been steadily trying to improve things because (1) there is the potential to expose a lot of new folks to flamenco and (2) there is an opportunity to support existing flamencos that use reddit but do not spend time on other messages boards. As a bonus, the focus on sharing content (as opposed to conversation) can lead to some interesting discoveries from time to time.

So if you have some time, please visit https://www.reddit.com/r/Flamenco/ and/or the reddit flamenco wiki https://www.reddit.com/r/Flamenco/wiki/index and let me know what you think. I am open to any ideas or suggestions.

Also... is anyone here also a subscriber over there?

Disclaimer: I have no commercial or official ties to reddit beyond being a moderator of a few of their sub forums. Although I hope to help develop a flamenco community at reddit, I also do not think of .../r/flamenco as a competitor to foroflamenco. I regularly refer interested users to foroflamenco.com and I've seen other reddit users doing the same - So I sincerely hope I am not breaking any sort of forum rules with this post.

I'm a 32 year old Luddite. Ive heard the word Reddit but I don't really know what it is. I'll poke around and see if I can figure it out.

Ive heard the word Reddit but I don't really know what it is.

A chicken walks into the library. It goes up to the desk and says: "book, bok, bok, boook". The librarian hands the chicken a book. It tucks it under his wing and runs out. A while later, the chicken runs back in, throws the first book into the return bin and goes back to the librarian saying: "book, bok, bok, bok, boook". Again the librarian gives it a book and the chicken runs out. The librarian shakes her head. Within a few minutes, the chicken is back, returns the book and starts all over again: "boook, book, bok bok boook". The librarian gives him yet another book, but this time as the chicken is running out the door, she follows it. The chicken runs down the street, through the park and down to the riverbank. There, sitting on a lily pad is a big, green frog. The chicken holds up the book and shows it to the frog, saying: "Book, bok, bok, boook". The frog blinks, and croaks: "Reddit! Reddit! Reddit!".

Oh man that was on point!

I'm surprised to hear there are players interested on Reddit, only because it's such a big pond of frogs And flamenco players are as rare as 2 dollar bills

@ Leñador: Thanks, and good luck. I still don't really know what is going on on reddit but I fake it best I can. There's a lot of cool little "subreddits" for wordgames too which I find a lot of fun and spend, honestly, way too much time with.

@ Dudnote: Ha! Frogs and pink chickens on stilts.... that pretty much describes it.

@ JasonM: I've got a stack of 2 dollar bills.... they're actually not that rare. Or was that what you were saying about flamenco players? In any case, there are ~800 subscribers on the reddit flamenco page, 300 of which joined in the last year (or so). About 20-30 seem to regularly come back by and sometimes chime in. The rest just wait on stuff getting enough "votes" to bump it to the top of their "news feed" I guess. There are at least three dancers there as well... And I remember at one point there was someone who said they had taken lessons with Ricard Marlow, which is what brought me back over to foroflamenco after it had been years since the last time I was lurking about.
