Hah, yeah I've seen that somewhere. Pretty cool. Seems like some sort of silly waste of time I'd build lol

Hi there,

I d like to write out the beat sequences for the 20 registers with this video:

Slowing down VLC works fine for the first levers (on the left of the operator).
1st lever goes on 12 - 6
2nd is 12-3-6-9
easy so far.
5th and 6th lever I see/hear (with h for hard, m for medium and s for soft beat):
h1-s2-h3-m4-s5-m7-s8-h9-m10-s11 and
s12-m1.5-h3-m4-s5-m6.5-m7.5-h9-m10-s11
7th and 8th almost the same respectively, except of 12 omitted in the 8th register.

but towards the right hand side it is getting a bit messy, because of the offset between audio and video, and I don't know whether to trust my eye or my ear.

Anybody figure it out?

Which software to use to get it clearer?

Piwin -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 1 2016 23:28:46)

I'm not going to write out the whole thing but I'll just say this:

counting from the right like you have (edit: my right, not his):

the 10 levers to the right are based on palmas patterns. up until 9 that's just marks every beat and 10 that does all the contratiempo.
The 10 other levers to the left of this are based on dance foot patterns. If you want to analyze the whole thing, it'll make more sense if you analyze the 10 levers on the left-hand side 2 by 2 (for instance 17 and 18 do a typical triplet pattern). Hope that helps.

mecmachin -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 8:44:04)

thanks Piwin.

for the dance patterns 17/18, do you see halfs, quarters or triplets??

Got no idea of dance unfortunately.

JasonM -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 13:49:37)

I know Len! Me too! That is pretty awesome. I don't think I want one though.

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 15:33:20)

well that's really fantastic ... but he should have finished the wood , and varnished it ..
an maybe have a button or lever to do the work of putting the arms in and out depending on what he wants ...
or maybe not , as it makes it more visual ..
either way , i need one for my sitting room and some casual playing while watching the telly ...the wife wont mind , I'm sure ..
..

edit ...
I was wrong about the wife bit ...girls are so unpredictable ..

Triplets from beat 7 to 10. He seems to have made it so it has a sort of crescendo effect.
And 17/18 line up with 15/16, which are the doing triplets also, but only between beat 9 and 10.
And since I'm doing this ([8D]), 13/14 mark beats 1, 2 and 3 (both together to accentuate the beats), then eight notes from 7 to 10.
11/12 just do a continuous triplet pattern, which starts and stops depending on when he pushed the button (but for some reason here it's a button or something behind the machine and not a lever like the rest of them).
19/20 16th notes from 1 to 1.5 (using how you noted the beats in your previous post), 3 (together), 16ths again from 4 to 4.5, 6 (together), 16ths from 7 to 7.5 and 9 and 10 together.
I think that's it for the "dance" side of the machine.

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 15:45:37)

but you know ..all joking aside ..i thing like that would take a lot of building ...
really a lot ...and the planning for each lever and making it all work together ,, and the speed control ...sound ,, force ., materials .. everything really ...hats off to the builder just for his patience alone ...

It kinda reminds me of the early Victorian Automatons ,, some of which were incredibly complicated with whole bands playing and everything ...
.
this kind of thing

Morante -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 16:13:20)

compás sin soniquete is just mechanical rhythm.

Impressive!
I've kept some of my childhood fascination for the large music boxes that use punch cards. I have fond memories of going out to the square and watching puppet shows accompanied by a music box.
Edit: I'm thinking of the wrong thing here. I was actually thinking of a barrel organ. Same basic idea though.

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 18:41:05)

just one other thing , looking at the two first 2 videos ... Is it compulsory to wear the same shirt ..and tie ?
if he didnt wear a black leather tie it wolud sound like this ...??

I see he has an interesting site at http://www.pelicanomecanico.com/

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 18:59:16)

sorry guys ...I'm caught up in the world of mechnical music ...

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 19:02:00)

Finally my favorite of all , .
I'm gonna stop now as I know you can find them all your selves...

Yeah, it almost makes him look likes he's not all there. Kind of like he lost his marbles. Except we know he didn't lose 'em. That other guy stole 'em for his machine.
OK. I'm out i'm out...

Also, I don't want to burst your bubble but that last one is an animation isn't it?

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 19:33:56)

yes it from animusic ..but its just the mix of computer animation and music that is cool ..you still have to mark every note with a strike ...
i should have put the origonal up really ...still cool though ..but people who actually get tools out and build stuff are much better ,, however the world is s big place and im open to all comers

edit ..sorry i forgot to mention that intel built the actual machine later on ..

Piwin -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 2 2016 20:25:39)

Got it. And I guess they did the animation using the actual calculations they had made. Crazy what they can do with engineering.

mecmachin -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 3 2016 9:07:20)

thanks piwin, really. Big help for me.
Hadn't seen you already mentioned triplets in your previous post.

Piwin -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 3 2016 10:32:49)

no problem!

El Kiko -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 3 2016 12:02:43)

Sorry Piwin , does your quote in French say ..
"Between a bad cook and a poisoner there is only , or there is no difference in intention...".

My French is probably only good enough to not starve in France , but I would have to eat the same thing every day ...[:-] luckily ice cream would be one of them

ric -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 3 2016 14:48:55)

Now, if I could just find a phone large enough that that would fit in to....[:D]

Piwin -> RE: The best flamenco metronome on the market (Jul. 3 2016 14:52:19)

It'd be the first option. Something like, the only difference between a bad cook and a poisoner is intent.
It's a quote by the late French humorist Pierre Desproges.
Here is his take on "how to soundproof an Andalusian woman, for use around hospitals and cemeteries" (answer at 1:10)

e voila...
.
in reality youd need a gag as well though ..

The only thing more annoying than this machine itself is the number of times this thing gets shared on Facebook and the number of times I have been tagged in such sharing. [:@]
