Phil -> I have an idea (Oct. 5 2003 0:57:57)

Hi everyone, I have an idea that I think will be of interest to those of us who are guitarists. I suggest that we start posting audio clips AND transcriptions of falsetas that we’ve learned or are learning that showcase a specific technique like alzapua, picado, double arpeggios, tremolo, rapid thumb down strokes, a tricky left hand fingering or difficult stretch, or anything that you’ve found to be particularly challenging. I guarantee that if you found it to be challenging, then most of the rest of us mere mortals will also find it challenging. (Except for Merle, who’s constantly whining about not being able to play and then posts some sound clip that makes the rest of us feel inferior). [&:] I’ll get the ball rolling as soon as I transcribe and can play the falesta that I’m currently working on. (I should have it down within the next 6 months).[:)] It’s a Malagueña falseta that most of you have probably heard, and it’s really kicking my ass, because it requires alternating i and m with p apoyando and then a p and i pinch. (And it’s not any variation of that tired old falseta that Ernesto Lecuono made famous and that everyone associates with Flamenco). Anyway, for me it’s like rubbing my head and patting my stomach at the same time. (I’m still having trouble with that). Does anyone else think that this would be something that would interest most of the members? I suggest no more that 1 such post every week or two. Otherwise it could get to be overwhelming. Everyone here should have both TabEdit and Guitar Pro. They are the most common tablature programs around and both have free versions available for downloading. The free versions allow you to play back a file of any size, but limit you to about 16 bars when you’re writing tabs. That’s usually enough for a falseta, and if it’s not you can break it up into smaller pieces. They are nice programs because they allow you to hear the transcriptions play in MIDI. Simon, can we upload TabEdit and Guitar Pro files? Tell me what you think of this idea. Phil
