I've noticed that PDL mysteriously (at least for me) touches something around the neck of his guitar before playing (and after tuning) in his concerts.
Logic tells me that it must be a built in tuner of some sort? I have never seen a tuner built in that region before or mounted there!
This bothers me every time I see it as I have no idea what he is doing?

Hello Rooz, probably a lot of us had the same question at some point.

It is some kind of "wax" that he used for the fingers in the right hand.

Cheers,

Ive heard he used either Vaseline or a type of lip balm...

Explains so much! thanks.. Glad I didn't go ahead with my 'tuner in the Guitar Neck' project!

It's pretty common. Any product that keeps the skin on your finger from "catching" too high on the string. Makes it easier to hit the sweet spot between the flesh and nail. Some people like to keep some at arm's reach. The built-in tuner is a cool idea though! [:)]

There is a tuner on the market that reads the pitch constantly and tunes via small motor/cogs.

My favorite part of the PDL concerts is him tuning his guitar
