Tom Blackshear -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (May 11 2018 10:23:52)

I recently came close to finishing the guitar and bought some stick on tap plate material from LMI.

Big mistake, the plate had tiny little spaces about dot size that I thought would burnish out but they didn't.

Now, how to remove the stick on plate??

I started to remove it by lifting the bass side a little, then gradually lifting it slowly until I got all of it removed, thank God only a small sliver of finish on the bass side came off.

I'll go back to my tried and true way of gluing the plate on with white glue, which can be removed easily when needing a change.

The guitar has now been taken to Juan Cadena's shop to be finessed out with the small areas of finish that need work, and then He'll bring it back to me and I'll install the tap plate.

Juan just got back from California with a huge purchase of 100 year old rosewood, so I'm excited to check it out.

Since my connection with Manuel Adalid is slowing its pace for necks and bridges, I hope to establish a system here to address this subject.

A little up date on my shop; its being systematically revamped with a lot of old stuff that I need to throw out and get back to an area that is clean and easy to work in.

Tomorrow is the day a cleaning expert will come and clear everything out that is not nailed down or necessary for my simple building purposes.

Looking forward to it.

Carlos Rodriguez Quiros e-mailed me the other day and said he is working on a recording for You Tube with my Conde style guitar, which is being played by an accomplished flamenco artist. Hopefully it will turn out good.

Well, the shop is clean now and it's getting close to back to work.

Richard is bringing his Arcangel Flamenco guitar today so that I can draw a plan for it.

Also, It's possible for us to visit Juan Cadena's shop while he is here.

You won't believe the amount of junk I got rid of, to start building again :-)

hola tom, would you share your arcangel-plan with us? would be really interesting.
greetings,
ben

Tom Blackshear -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (Jun. 14 2018 19:01:07)

Yes, of course I'll share it with you but I have to draw it first and then send it to the GAL for them to computerize it on paper. This would be the least expensive way to sell it, as my time and energy for it is too consuming with all the time to get it copied and such.

So, Ill let the GAL handle it.

great! thanks!

First, congratulations Steve on your guitar in Japan.

Here is a video to the preliminary drafting for the 1982 Arcangel Fernandez flamenco guitar plan;

Here is a little more presentation of the Arcangel Fernandez guitar.

Richard Jernigan -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (Jun. 19 2018 2:08:59)

Drove down to San Antonio to pick up the guitar today. Tom showed me the plan, nicely done. He is donating it to the Guild of American Luthiers. I don't know what they will charge for it, but if anyone makes any money on it at all, it will be the Guild.

...and Tom even bought me lunch!

hello tom, would you give us some snaphot preview of your plan or some comments on building details?

Tom Blackshear -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (Jun. 19 2018 13:48:45)

It would be a very rough draft and not very detailed in its layout but it will tell you that it is very close to a Marcelo Barbero plan that I have.

Arcangel Fernandez built different patterns from the 50's to the late 80's and they were all good patterns to follow.

However, I don't have the time to explain the details until the GAL has a plan to sell, so please don't ask.

Echi -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (Jun. 19 2018 17:39:27)

All the Arcangels I saw had the very same pattern.
I noticed some differences in the shape of the struts (mostly the 2 closing struts and the central strut)
The pattern scheme I’m referring to, can be seen in the Urlich book.
The plantilla is the same plantilla used by Barbero and Santos and nowadays used by Romanillos as well.
Doming of the plates quite flattish.
I’m happy Tom is working on this plan and for sure will be an interesting document .

I'll see if I can install the rough written plan on this thread, even though it might not be very legible. In the meantime here is a recent video of my students guitar, made by Mark Usherovich.

Tom Blackshear -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (Jun. 22 2018 15:31:25)

Mark Usherovich guitar played by a popular Japanese player. Interesting how a modified Miguel Rodriguez style can hold up with flamenco technique.

A recent note from Tim at the GAL said that he was working on a rough draft of the Arcangel Fernandez flamenco plan and that he would send me a copy as soon as it's finished.

When I receive it I'll try and take a picture of it, in its rough form, just to give a little primary idea of what it will be like in the finished plan.

Tom Blackshear -> RE: Tom's tutorial Manuel Reyes Flamenco negra (Dec. 4 2018 16:04:00)

Still waiting on Tim to get the computerized plan's rough copy.
