minorthang -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 5 2016 1:27:21)

ithink with picado you either got it or aint!!! and amigo you totally got it!

Ricardo -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 6 2016 13:40:07)

Saw grisha did this on Facebook, didn't see the original. Compas is a little odd to me so I changed to something more groovey that I can handle.

JohnWalshGuitar -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 6 2016 13:51:37)

Cool guys.
Ricardo I think the original were all 32nd notes starting on the 3rd 32nd note of beat 7

JohnWalshGuitar -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 6 2016 13:56:26)

I tried the bloody thing too, just the phrase itself. Didn't actually practice it though. Just hit record. I should probably practice before hitting record in future.

Ricardo -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 6 2016 14:20:48)

I guess this is closer to the original, but I still had to add two notes to make it feel right:

Thanks for the kind comment minorthang..

@Ricardo: I like the groove put into it. Really good sound too...

@John: You really are ripping it now John. D**mn!. That arpeggio part throws me off a little when i try to gas it. What really is amazing is how Rafael is able to achieve that kind of speed with such brute force.

Still practicing this remate....

Ah, begginer's corner.

Now I have a decent phone camera, you guys are lucky that I don't have a guitar here to embarass you. [:D]

Seriously now, where's the original remate?

jg7238 -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 6 2016 20:26:21)

Ok last video on this remate.. I'm done for now...

He's using 3 finger picado on the run there. The Bm7b5 arp is slower than the run, so that's how the timing works. Damn cheater. [:D]

How can you be 100% sure that he's doing 3-finger picado? What if he just slows down for the arpeggio then speeds up for the picado run while still using only 2-finger picado? I've asked him before, and he said it's TWO-finger...

For me his re-set action is clearly groups of three (YouTube), a-m-i, as per the string fingering too. Perhaps in the Facebook example, his slow version ends with m finger (his right hand is almost totally off camera), suggesting he starts m finger on the D note and alternates. But the YouTube thing ends with i. So slow demo it's two fingers, m i, and fast is a-m-i. I will practice and do it like I think he does it. (Ps if he says it's two, then you can call him mentiroso! [:D])

Sr. Martins -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 19:31:33)

3 finger picado always makes me feel like a bass player...

Run to the hills!

Grisha -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 20:25:45)

He is doing iim picado all the way. It is visible in the first video if you play it slowly.

Meaning, he is dragging i across instead of start with a finger? Guess that is a lot easier. It's still cheating! [:D]

Honestly I would need to see a different angle cuz from the front, m and i move at the same medium speed as a finger, all 3 alternating in sequence...iim would show a fast gallop of m-i movement which I dont' see.

Grisha -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 20:51:04)

If the end result sounds amazing there is no cheating in music. Except for AutoTune.

IMO, the sound is a bit choked vs what you or John did at a touch slower speed.

jg7238 -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 21:16:32)

So if this was called "solea remate competition" not including Rafael of course; my version would be in last place based on attack, sound and speed?😀.

Grisha -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 21:20:20)

Actually Juan, your version was at least as fast as mine. When it comes to picado you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the generous comment Grisha. I know my attack and sound are good but it's cool to know you think that in terms of speed I'm getting there. Quite frankly I shouldn't be worried about speed but it's healthy competition.

minorthang -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 22:44:05)

cool jimi hendrix! for the transcription, great skill -- maybe a few more ofthe faslsetas he plays are worth a look (winkwinknudge nudge[;)])

ami, im oh heavens now the depression has deeply set in

xirdneH_imiJ -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 7 2016 23:28:44)

Actually this is just how I saw on the faster video (slowed down of course), but he played it slower for Luciano (check his facebook page for the video) and there he ends the run with the middle finger. Either way, it's an i-m picado for sure, no ring finger involved.

Again, the reason is the slow version is done m-i, the fast one is a-m-i. Slowed video or not, simply count the i finger re-set, or m finger for that matter, and you will see there are only 5-6 repetitions, not 8 or 9.

Ricardo -> RE: Practicing a solea remate by Rafael Cortes (Jun. 8 2016 12:58:28)

I don't really have patience to develop this technique but, you can see the idea behind it. I think the trick is the synchronization, but it can go very fast with half the effort of normal alternation. I only mess with it a few minutes here, this is what it looks like he is doing to me:

I know I can't make it clean sounding as the ami I do is not so even, but you can at least see the potential.

And finally, to slay the dead horse, you see he is no stranger to 3 finger picado in this show, specifically 9:30 and 9:47... If it's not obvious there, I dont' know what to say guys.
