larone -> Limited practice question??? (Jan. 19 2006 6:29:05)

I'm just about to end my holidays [:(] oh they were good [;)]
sun, beaches, women, cocktails, bbq, food, wine........arr why does it have to end...
ANYWAY, i'm curious as to what you guys think about this:
Most days i'll have about 3-4 hours to practice.
What is the most important things to get happening??
I'm thinking mainly about 1. Technique 2. Compas 3. Falsetas 4. Letras....
Then there's songs for gigs and stuff.
Ok. i don't even know if i need to ask this question. I'm just curious.
is there something i've missed??[8|]

Coffee. Copious amounts of coffee. [:D]

Well I would set aside some time just for listening to flamenco, I find it really helps. I usually spend at least an hour a day just flat out listening. (And I don't mean popping in the CD and then going off to read the papers or hang the drying or whatever, I mean literally sitting there and doing nothing except focusing on the music!)

Larone,
I don't think technique should be 1., maybe 3 or 4. Learn music!

I think it's really dependent on where you are on the beginner-advance scale. I can see how a noob would want to focus on technique early on, but then later focus on pieces like Miguel mentions.

I find that rarely are my practice sessions very organized. I have 30 minutes here, thirty minutes there, an hour here, etc. So, there are days when it is all technique, then there are days when I just focus on practicing different pieces.

I find that structure in my practice sessions kills my motivation, especially when there's this piece I want to work on, and I try to force myself to practice a bunch of scales etc.

I've come to the point tho, where if I find a certain technique is lacking, I try to just practice a piece of music that emphasizes that technique. Right now, it's picado, and occasionally tremolo, and, btw, almost forgot rasgeados & golpes AND ALZAPUA! [8D]
