Wood definitely wins unless you are playing in the rain, but I have heard of using carbon fiber to reinforce necks. It could certainly be used in specific places to reduce weight and increase strength which would be good for a Flamenco guitar. It can also be formed into any shape with specific characteristics by using different grades of carbon fiber and different layups. Pretty much all high end bicycle frames are made from carbon fiber making them lighter, stiffer and comfortable. It definitely beats steel, aluminum and titanium (and wood) despite the opinions of some "retro-grouches" that cling to the past. It think guitar making has yet to exploit this material and we may be seeing it more in the future.
