Argaith -> Record a slowed down video? (Apr. 30 2016 12:51:22)

Hi all,

Anyone knows how to record a slowed down video?
I can watch the video on VLC at a slower speed with a fairly good pitch but I would like to record the slow version to figure out the fingers, chords, etc.
Thanks for your advice in advance.

if you are playing it at a slow speed already with VLC why would you need to record it at slow speed again?

however, if that's what you wanted which is to record it while playing at a slow speed on VLC then if you are using windows 10 then it comes with an app that's called 'Step Recorder'.. Just hit the windows button and type Step Recorder and it will show up.. Simply run the app and it will record anything that goes on your screen so you can play the video with VLC at a slower speed and you can save and edit the recording afterward.

of course there are other options like snag it and Camtasia but these are paid software while step recorder is free and comes built into your windows copy.

I want to put the slow recording on my phone and check while I'm learning a piece. I just don't want to sit in front of the laptop.

Many thanks for introducing Step Recorder; sounds like exactly what I was looking for :)
Looks like that I'll have to upgrade to Win10 first!

Thank you again.

What's your current operating system?

Just record it with your cel phone camera from your computer screen while it's playing.

Thanks Ricardo; that's what I've done for now but the quality is not great!

Thank you both.

Tell me what the video is, and I will take care of it for you then I will upload the final product for you to snag it.

If what you want is to watch it on your phone then step recorder may not be the best option as it saves the files on a zip folder but this program will take care of what you need.. It's a screen recorder that can record any area you specify from your screen so you just need to play it slow on VLC while recording VLC window with this software.. Change the settings to what suits you best in terms of the recorded video output format and stuff.

It's called CamStudio and it's free:

Here's a link to their website:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/

And here's a direct link to download it:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/camstudio/stable/CamStudio_Setup_2-7_r316.exe?r=https%3A%2F%2Fsourceforge.net%2Fprojects%2Fcamstudio%2F&ts=1462311654&use_mirror=iweb

Also, as a side note, if you are interested in upgrading to windows 10 you might consider doing so soon because it will only be a free upgrade till July 29 of this year after that Microsoft will be charging money for the upgrade unless you are happy with Win 7 and want to keep it.

Enjoy!

If you don't care about the image (because you already know the finerring and just need a jam track)...

... convert to audio format...
... slow the audio track down in audacity...
... export to new audio file.

I like using Transcribe.

http://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/overview.html

It can slow down video/audio pitch it etc... and export the slowed down audio and video.

Cheers

Thanks a lot for your kind offer dear Ramzi. I prefer not to trouble you; plus I might need to do this often if I struggle to figure out pieces. I have to learn to do it :)
Hopefully I should be able to do it using CamStudio suggested by Ali or Transcribe suggested by John.

Thanks all again.
