Sr. Martins -> Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Apr. 18 2016 17:25:35)

As I am moving abroad, I'll be getting a new guitar in the next few months.

I always liked HSL guitars from what I hear (haven't played one) but now I am a bit of confused with the changes in numenclature.

Are they still good guitars? What changed with the new names (Solea)?

Another question.. by getting a 660, it means that I will get more tension compared to the same strings on a 650, right? That would be cool because I don't like thick strings but I also don't like them too wobbly.

Any other recommendations up to around 1500€?

Thanks [:)]

I really like the Camps guitars in that price range as well, but I'd probably lean towards the HSL.

If you do get one of the above get it from the chap at Mundo Flamenco as he picks the ones he likes the most from their factories so your guaranteed a gem.

It's possible to order the HSL with a 650mm scale if needs be. 660mm does give a bit more tension than 650mm. From my experiences having owned 650,655,658,660mm scales the differences aren't as significant as I would have expected. I personally find nut width and neck shape to be more of an issue.

I lean towards wide necks with a "flat-ish" profile, I think it's the D shape. When the back of the neck is too round I feel like my thumb is fighting the neck.

I saw that Solea 2015 that they carry. So you think that the higher price point is worth it rather than just grabbing a new one from somewhere else for 1500€?

koenie17 -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Apr. 18 2016 18:53:43)

I´d really save up a bit more(2000€) and get something really nice, Maybe a 2a from Anders, quite sure there must be a peña vargas out there for 1500€(second hand). I tried good and less good guitars by both builders(factories [;)]) Camps and HSL. Especially if buying online without playing them first kinda tricky...
I guess you allready knew, you´ve been around the block.
You´re from Portugal no? So where are you moving?

Sr. Martins -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Apr. 18 2016 19:05:14)

Moving to Caen, France.

I think I'll have to travel if I want to test something.. just like it was in Portugal. [:D]

The place I am moving to can get very humid at times, that's why I was leaning into something like a HSL. If I get a "delicate" luthier guitar, I might end up with a deformed top. When the humidity rises here in Portugal, my Kremona gets bulgy at the wings of the bridge and sinks in the middle... not a problem but my Alhambra dealt much better with real high humidity.

koenie17 -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Apr. 18 2016 19:57:29)

That´s because they spray like half a centimeter of plastic on those guitars[:D]
I´m not sure, but I think that if the wood is aged properly it shouldn´t be a problem. Maybe one of the experiences luthiers could comment on that?
In my opinion there is no significant difference between a 900€ factory guitar and a 1500€ one. So if you really want a bulletproof poliuretano guitar get something cheaper maybe Bernal, Camps, Hermanos Bros etc.

But if your willing to spent 1500€ why not save up a little more and get something really nice?

Caen, France

I live in the UK, not far from Caen, climatically speaking. The two problems when humidity is high: a more dull sounding guitar, and sweaty palms...talcum powder recommended! Better than living in a cold dry climate where tops crack!

I have a 2006 Carrillo blanca for sale, but I think it might be too much for your budget.

Bonne chance en Francia...

Maybe I'll just play some palmas for a while. [:D]

Did you see Blondie is selling his Anders for less than this? You could get a boat over to Plymouth to pick it up off him and the guitar would be well aclimatised to humidity by now too[:D]

Great to see another dot in France is going to appear on the foro map[;)]

I often buy and sell within my country but I don't know how to "be sure" within milanuncios.

It's funny, Blondie's guitar was the one that got me into flamenco. It was a video on youtube where he was playing some Tomatito's falsetas [:D] Didn't know he was that close, I'll check that out.

Thanks.

I was looking into Valeriano Bernal guitars and I found that the Prodigio model that everyone talks about is around 660€.. is this true in 2016?

Is it a nice guitar like an HSL or is it more like an Alhambra 4F?

I am about to pull the trigger on the HSL Solea.

Has anyone here had first hand experience with this model (2015/16)?

rodrigovalt -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (May 31 2016 19:53:14)

Hello Sr. Martins, I am planning to sell my HSL F. Extra, palosanto (great instrument). In case you are interested let me know, here is a video in which I playing it:

Sr. Martins -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Jun. 1 2016 17:53:09)

Ok guys, thank you all.

I picked the HSL Solea and I am getting a boner just by looking at the pics they've sent me.

Uh, I mean..I ordered an extra saddle bone.[:D]

lagoausente -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Aug. 30 2016 15:39:08)

I find a Solea overpriced. Have had a 2F that´s same guitar as actual Solea, now have several guitars, one of them a 1F Extra that´s really quite better then 2F model.
Check a second hand Extra if you can, for the near same price as the new Solea you can get better guitar.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Oct. 27 2016 21:45:00)

Just saw this and found it interesting. Apparently there's only six people working there now.

quote:

Echi -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Oct. 28 2016 7:26:10)

I'm not sure it's exactly like this or at least I think this is not the full picture.
My infos are that 2 people are just the official long term employees while other workers are still there with short term contracts, interim etc.
The company still makes a good number of guitars (and btw Ricardo's wife is not a luthier).
Anyway it's absolutely true that in 2005 and 2013 Ricardo's children cut the personnel and changed their product line (stopping the lower model guitars) to make it more profitable. China is unbeatable on the lower models and now the Sanchis now try to compete in the upper market, particularly with the RSC model.
That's exactly why I for one think the old models had a better ratio value per money.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Oct. 28 2016 14:20:29)

But.. are they still making Condes? [:D]

Echi -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Oct. 28 2016 16:38:09)

[:D] I don't think so...
Anyway i had been offered a (fake) Conde that came out to be a Sanchis 2f with a fake label...

sartorius -> RE: Hermanos Sanchis Lopez 2016 (Mar. 11 2017 8:38:44)

This is a "fábrica" where several people build and assemble different parts of a same guitar. I would personally go for a Ricardo-era made guitar (like 2002-2006) 1A F-Extra.
