Hi foro members,

I haven´t been here for a longer time, but I´ve just returned from the Frankfurt Musikmesse. If anybody comes to the music show, please visit ERPA Guitar at hall 8.0 booth C82. You´ll find some extraordinary flamenco guitars that really impressed me very much. Ehsan Roghani and his wife Parvaneh Alivand exhibit wonderful classical and flamenco guitars in a very special design and full unique rich sound.

Two blancas (cypress and a special mosaic-like maple) and a negra with brazilian rosewood "Grenadillo" are waiting to be tested and loved [:)]

Tomorrow on Saturday I´m again at the music show. Later more. For more info, please visit the webste at www.erpaguitar.com

Saludos
Bernd

So is it Brazilian Rosewood or Grenadillo? They are two different types of South American wood. If it is Brazilian Rosewood it wouldn't be possible to import it into the U.S. under CITES. Or are they trying to be cute by passing off Brazilian Rosewood as Grenadillo?

I´ve made a video interview with the luthier. He says, it´s Grenadillo and not Rio rosewood. Grenadillo is a kind of Brazilian rosewood although it looks very similar to rio rosewood. As far as I know grenadillo is not under CITES. Tomorrow I´am at the booth again and will ask the luthier. Anytime during the weekend I´ll post his answer. Please check back later.

The grenadillo sounds sharper than the more round sound of rio rosewood, very sharp, as I really would state. The booth conception is very lousy this year, so it is very noisy at the instrument makers. I´m beaten by a little focal distonia, but I´ll try to provide a small sound demo on the flamencas. Also I haven´t played for about a month...

Btw. there are more than two kinds of Brazilian rosewood under CITES e. g. pau ferro and so others.

Hi Bill,

I´ve spoken wth the luthier. Grenadillo is definitely not under CITES. Threre is a lot of video editing to do from the music show. So it will take some time untill I will have the concerning clips to these flamencas. As soon as they are "in the box", I will include the links here.

Thanks for your reply, Bernd. At first I was a bit confused as to whether they were calling it Brazilian Rosewood or Grenadillo. Appreciate your clarification.

Bill
