Hello,
I just got back from this year's twentieth anniversary Festival, having had a truly excellent time. I think it was the best ever ( for me at any rate ). My highlights were
- a brilliant 'chamber concert' type event at the Convento de San Augustin with David Lagos, Santiago Lara, Mercedes Ruiz and Debora de la Fuente
- Santiago Lara playing Pat Methany
- Javier Patino doing his own jazz-flamenco
- Antonio Reyes' lovely gentle voice at Bodega Gonzales Byass, and
- Manuel Linan wowing the theatre audience with his gender-bending show.
What did other folks see?
Julie[:D]

Thanks for posting.

For those like me, who weren't there, here are some videos from this year's festival.

The highlights for me were:
- Dani de Morón, who had a terrible fever and did an astonishing performance as if he was at 110%[:o]
- Antonio Agujetas, at which Diego del Morao was in the front row and looked like a kid in Disneyland for the first time[:D]

Here's some of that performance:

PS Lots of other good cante uploads on this channel recently,
including some others from the Festival de Jerez XX. Here's Jose Canela and Manuel Jero:

Here's some video of backstage and performance:

Has anyone been there to see sara baras, or eva la yerbabuena? or the circulos e.g. the one at luis de la pica with zambullo and la zabi was high octane. Really eager to know how many in foro cares more about cante and baile rather than jazz contamination (in positive sense) and paco de lucia ( also positive).

Doesn't seem all that related to your question IMO. I didn't get to see any of the people you mentioned, though I love cante and baile. I just wasn't there! [8D] Based on the vids and what people are saying, sounds like the festival was phenomenal this year.

Hi Julie

we only visited for 3 days (birthday present from my wife).
we saw Jose Valencia at the Gonzalez Byass Bodega (at a very reasonable time of midnight) I enjoyed the show very much, my wife described him as "a bit of drama queen" which was perfect..

Also we saw the Antonio Reyes, Diego del Morao show at the Bodega, which was fantastic - they performed much the same stuff as whats on their album Directo en el Círculo Flamenco de Madrid.
My wife particularly liked "the clappers".

we visited many of the bars, and saw some great flamenco in Bar la Reja where Noa Drezner had a few sets with different singers/dancers, and also el pasaje. Everyone seemed to have a great time and there was much audience participation in the bars - is this the same throughout the year or just at this level during the festival?

and I discovered Lepanto at the Bodega, which now replace Carlos III as my holiday tipple.

I'm just about to book my flights for next year!

John

so these company Manuel Linan with Drag flamenco dancers will come to town.

For me its a little odd , never saw a show like that , but i really enjoyed with female exotic dancers and it was great.

Is it a good show?
