Ron, you liked that about the Walgreens, didn't you? would you like to hear more? Every Walgreens looks exactly the same and has the exact same products. They also strive to have the same layout inside. There are some really nice things about that, of course. For example, if I am in a big hurry and need to get a new nail file or Hard As Nails, I know that it's going to be on the left hand side right after I walk in past the two electric doors and past the liquor section if this particular Walgreens has one. I also know that if I need to get some photos developed that on the right past the two cashiers there will be one, right next to the cameras and past that will be the frozen foods and drinks and snacks. You can get almost anything you need at a Walgreens--Geri-curl, school supplies, cheap local souvenier trinkets, teeny bopper magazines, Elvis' greatest hits CDs, Bob Marley's greatest hits that aren't on his real greatest hits album, shampoo, and of course bandages and medicines. In fact, the best thing about Walgreens is that there is a fairly large section for medicine and things to soothe aches and pains and wraps and all that. Also, you can pick up a prescription at any Walgreens you want, although you may have to phone ahead. This would be convenient if say I was visiting my parents-in-law (yeah right) in Seattle and needed to get my daily dose of Lipitor. Walgreens used to have a fairly lucrative food service business in the store, one of the things they were known for, but at a certain point ditched it and decided to go for margin/customer. In other words, convenience. Sure you can get about anything at a Walgreens but it is pretty expensive. They pay whatever they need to get the prime corner real estate and charge high prices. It has served them well, as they are one of the top 11 companies in the US in terms of sustained stock growth. That being said, I hate them and only go there when I have to pick up some medicine.
