Just a quick question if some one would be so kind. There was reference recently to a picardo exercise.

It has a couple of 'po's. My question: the po takes a beat. So for example:

1 1 1 1 1(po) 0

Do I do that a m a m - m

or a m a m - a

I guess do you keep the fingers alternating in time even with missing notes?

Cheers [8|]

Couple of things....sure you want to do this a m and not i m?

Regardless of how you are doing the fingering, you have 4 notes then 5th with pull off...the timing implies "a-m-a-m-a (pull off)... Repeat. That means repeat with same starting finger. It is simply better for fast runs. But one should also be starting entire exercise with the other finger too, so as not to end up with a dominant finger. I don't think it necessary to alternate starting finger when doing these types of exercises. So do like 4 or 8 repetitions with a, then 4 or 8 with m, etc. IMO.

Ricardo many tx. Interestingly I was trying various combos of fingers as my index finger does dominate (as you suggest). I do my scales and at the end find I've put a double index in somewhere but am often not conscious of exactly where. I think where the left hand change needs more concentration (like 4th or 5th fret or a barre (F)). Slow it down and it is fine of course. To try and avoid it I try say 20 open i-m or whatever so the fingers are alternating and then jump in (a rolling start [:D]) . Doesn't always help the switch but I do find I get better timing.

Can see the same starting finger will make repeated sequences easier so will look out for that.

Cheers
