Hi there, I have to fix some tuner holes too big than necessary. I know the method of making a bigger hole and then a fill it with a bigger bar of the same wood but I'd prefer just to put some filler close to the borders. I tried to make my own filler with cedrela sand and titebond but I was asking myself if there is a better way: anyone tried with hide glue and sand or schellac and sand? What would you do to make it invisible? Thanks in advance

I think you mean saw dust rather than sand. I only really ever use that type of filling on Rosewood or Ebony work holes. I also much prefer to use a thick super glue as it will also fill. That could work but I think I would still rather fill with a real bit of wood.

Yes I meant saw dust, sorry. Thanks for your reply. I read that some people ( mostly restorers) work with hot hide glue and dust but I have no experience at all with that.

I can't say I have any experience with it either. My only thoughts would be how the hide glue would take the colour. I think some of the old inlay filler was hide glue dyed black but I am not sure on that one. I get that impression because you can see a slight brown tint to it so I assume the same brown tint could come from the hide glue.
