I'd like to share this excellent documentary about the maestro Sabicas, one of the great pillars of Flamenco.

THE greatest, in my opinion. I'd rather listen to Sabicas than Vicente, Tomatito, and all the others that are the current rage.

So this is the film Estela told us about a while back. Wow! It’s every bit as good as I hoped. I can hardly wait to get the DVD.

On a related topic: a friend in Córdoba sent me a book about Sabicas published by the Ayuntamiento there (Sabicas: el coloso de la guitarra flamenca). It’s very interesting; especially the part by Mario Escudero’s son, Mario Manuel.

However, there’s some very strange glitch involved with it: when you search for it and click any link, you get the picture and listing of a different book (Córdoba en el pasado), also published by the Ayuntamiento de Córdoba. I haven’t yet found a correct listing on the Internet.

The ISBN-13 is 978-84-89409-32-3.

Fantastic video. Really amazing insight into his career and music. I also much rather listen
to Sabicas than a lot of the new players.
How many guitars does Tomatito have?? @32.50 I hope that is a shop[:D]

Maaaan thanks! I´ve been wanting to see it for YEARS! I´ve even send emails to the director, asking him when he as going to release it on dvd! As one of the guys said it´s one the most important contributions made to this forum. Thanks for making this a shining sunday!

I think what Estrella Morente said about Sabicas' warm, encouraging treatment of her when she was seven is at the heart of this gypsy's life history. He played with heart, real duende. Thank you so much, josecarlos, for posting this. I did not know that it existed, nor did I know so much about Sabicas as a person.

Sabicas is certainly the benchmark, inspiration and fundamental expression of flamenco for anybody to follow.
