Hola Gente!
My girlfriend is treating me to a trip to San Francisco to see this Fados group on January 2nd. We'll be there Friday January 1st as well, anyone know of any flamenco happening that day around the downtown area? Even if it's just a regular show at a tapas place we'd be pretty happy....for that matter any and all restaurant recommendations are welcome! [:D] haven't been up there in 7 years or so. Super stoked!

Lenny, first point is if you are going to see a fado performance, you don't need flamenco. Fado is a beautiful Portuguese musical genre in its own right. It will be every bit as interesting and enjoyable as a flamenco performance.

Second point. I pass through San Francisco often on my way to the Far East, and I always spend at least one overnight just to go to my favorite seafood restaurant, Scoma's. For a great seafood dinner, go to Scoma's Seafood Restaurant, located at pier 47 near Fisherman's Wharf.

When you enter Scoma's, turn to your right and go up the steps to the bar. There is a huge window looking out at the inlet, and it is a great place to have a beer or a glass of wine before dinner. Enjoy!

Bill

Thanks for the restaurant tip Bill!

My girlfriend and I have been obsessed with fados for over a year now. We've been trying to find a fados show near us since then and this is the first time we've found one. We just wanted to make it two nights of music [:D] I was about to fly to Portugal to see Ana Moura! Lol

Thirsty Bear Brewery in SF. Flamenco shows every Sunday. Check the website for times.

Brewery AND flamenco? Sounds like my kind of place! I leave Sunday afternoon :/

Try to postpone the flight for a later departure. :)

There is always a show somewhere in the Bay Area. Check Oakland for a show. End of the bar at Thirsty Bear used to be my "office". Try the ESB. All the local people play at one time or anther at TB. Maybe Jason is plying while you are there, if you want to have your mind blown by a guitar player you should go see him. Or if you have time take a lesson with him, he packs a lot into 90 minutes and he will make a video. He's very funny too.

I've been lucky enough to see Jason a fair amount of times down here and have some cool conversations with him. He was the first person I looked up schedules for when I knew I was going, doesn't look like he's officially playing anywhere on the 1st. Maybe I'll shoot him an email and see if he's got anything going on. I'm only in SF two days but a lesson may not be a bad idea. my lady's teacher Mizuho just moved up there maybe she can keep herself busy lol
