I've really gotten a handle on the pimami arpeggio with a thumb anchor, but arpeggios played without a thumb anchor is very daunting, especially when continuous. It's like being out in the open, or out in the wild, with no protection. Are the movements still coming from the larger knuckle? Follow all the way through the same? Any practice suggestions?

Large knuckle yes of course. Follow through same as when thumb is apoyando. Practice short fast bursts....increase by adding number of repetitions but keep the main arp fast and rhythmically tight as you can.
