Cool. Thanks for posting this.

His dedication to his music post-injury is inspiring.

I'm very curious as to how this one will sound compared to his last album.

tri7/5 -> RE: New Gerardo Nunez CD (Dec. 12 2015 15:22:17)

Some fast runs in there and sounding good. Unsure if his normal picado is back somewhat or hes really improved his IA finger picado.

He was always able to do fast picado....what he lost was tirando movements for arpegio tremolo and basic strumming saddly. He can do apoyando with i no problem. He now compensates using m-a or m-a-p for arpegios etc.

What exactly is the trouble he's having with his index finger?

Pain, "wrong" movement, damaged nailbed...?

I've been waiting for Gerardo's new CD more than anything else in the world of flamenco, very sad to see it might end up like Paco De Lucia and John Maclaughlin's music, just fusion stuff instead of Gerardo's new creations in the world of Flamenco. To me he's one of the very few who can make completely new flamenco music without losing it's essence. I understand a guitar duo song or two with a jazz guitarist, but a complete record after such long break?

I saw him in a live concert about a year ago and he's playing as good as ever. The injury didn't seem to limit him at all

My thoughts exactly, especially after hearing that he cut a lot of material from his previous record (and, undoubtedly, as most professional musicians, is sitting on a treasure trove of unreleased material). Don't get me wrong, I am super excited about the record and Nunez is my favorite guitarist, but I am yearning for something as inventive yet still traditional as Andando el Tiempo, Jucal, etc...

He had some accident, took off playing for 3 months....back in 2008.... when he started up again he was playing fine but with odd mistakes unlike before. After a year it was obvious he had some perminant damage. He doesn't look at his hand when he plays... he used to have a ripping arpegio, but he has since started missing notes and it has to do with co ordinating the index finger when doing tirando, free stroke. It's like he can;t find the string when playing. He strumming is affected too. But when he touches the string first and pushes it down for rest strokes, his finger seems to suddenly know what to do. It's very strange, but the end result is that as he plays his i finger drifts and loses it's focus....unless he plays rest strokes.

About saying his live show reveals that he is not "limited" at all...he is a great artist and performer and die hard flamenco for sure...but, the fact is a good 80% of his former concert guitar repertoire is GONE.

Do you think the condition hasn't improved when watching his videos during those 7 years?

Here's 2015 vids from july(this user has other interesting HD flamenco videos, check out his profile):

To me it seems he could recover even more with time.

Sr. Martins -> RE: New Gerardo Nunez CD (Dec. 13 2015 15:08:44)

Thanks for the explanation.

I read something about a car door but never understood what was the trouble he was having while playing. I had noticed on videos that he was avoiding using the index but sometimes he used it..

I saw him last time he came to London and could have cried - I felt so depressed afterwards. Having seen him at his peak (late nineties) there is no comparison[:(][:(][:(]

I had the impression that the recording is the idea and project of the jazz guitarist Ulf Wakenius, not a change of direction for Gerardo. Gerardo was probably hired.

Ulf is my favorite jazz player on a nylon string, I'm really looking forward to hearing this collaboration.
