Who's in for an official FF Winter Challenge? [:)]

I don't know if we still have any prizes (cejilla, software..) but since we didn't spend them on the last one, there might be something left... or more added eheh

I was thinking of something easy to accomplish, short and simple to vote on. BTW, by "collaborative effort" I mean that everybody would record their thing and it would be compiled and edited into a single track. (This could also be up for voting but my intention right now is to see if more people will join in if we leave out the ratings.)

Let's talk about this and hopefully we will get something running and sending out prizes in time for christmas. [sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]

Down to participate but not organize.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 13 2015 19:49:20)

You forgot the poll.. at this point it's about finding out what we want to do.

Leñador -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 13 2015 20:10:29)

Missed that! haha, done.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 13 2015 20:17:44)

I told you to check that but I haven't made my decision yet lol

I think it needs a fourth option...

edit: Sorry man, I'll have to delete your vote because I just found out about multiple choice. Please, come back later! [8D]

edit: I left your vote there. You can add other things, it's multiple selection now.

johnnefastis -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 13 2015 20:28:31)

I was just thinking of this and was thinking Buleria groove challenge... no melodies lasting more than
a medio compas or something... Just straight up chords and rhythm.

Maybe different speed categories 230 BPM 180 BPM or something.

No more than 2 minutes.

Any thoughts on that ??

I am thinking that you're thinking too much of what I am thinking. [:D]

Bulerias!

Just chords would be a bit boring... don't you think? ...unless it's in collab mode, then there would be room for that.

My whole flamenco repertoire isn't enough to fill 2 minutes. [:D]

Dudnote -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 14 2015 1:11:40)

I'll play something / join in. Collaborative tracks sounds interesting. Perhaps with some of the old guitar free cante tracks that Florian and others collected some years ago.

Can't vote now, a bit spun out by barbaric events in Paris.

Andy Culpepper -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 15 2015 0:23:54)

I voted for the first option, as I love composing and don't really have time to sit down and learn music anymore. As long as it's that, I'm in!

It's a multiple selection poll guys!!

There are 3 things to vote on.

Dudnote -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 15 2015 2:49:27)

My votes are in. The collaborative track idea sounds new and interesting. If there's voting too I guess that means teaming up. Otherwise it would be like one team, one vote and everybodies a winner [:D]

That would be cool but I don't think we'll have enough people for that.

The collab thing (as I wrote) would be the same as competing alone but with all the entries in the same track as one whole song.

You're thinking in sequence or layered? Layering could work great, for example, with cante accomp each letra has 2 guitarists, each guitarist does 2 letras and you change (fade in / out) one of the guitarists between each letra.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 18 2015 14:21:32)

Looks like it's going to be:

I would like to compose my thing on a given palo with Voting and My stuff on a collaborative track (record to a pulse/beat).

What palos would you suggest?

Leñador -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 18 2015 16:54:33)

Claro que Bulerias!! [:D]

El Kiko -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 18 2015 18:22:18)

sevillanas ..

write your own sevillanas ..

choose the best 4 and join them together into a complete sevillanas .. and then the Foro will have its own sevillanas that people can learn ...
post how to play each bit ...........

i aleady know this idea is rejected ... no need to post ...[:-]

Everything will be considered but the original idea for the collab is to have one track with everyone. This way each member doesn't have to spend much time composing and participants are all featured togheter.

So wheres the challenge bit of your challenge ...?
you dont have to spend much time ....and everyone wins

its not suppose to be easy ... you wont learn anything unless you push yourself a bit ....

new idea for challenge .......everyone just play something you've been playing for years .....and we all shout ''Ole'' at the end .....

count me out ... collab track has an infinitesimal chance of being any good ..
just try it with any professional tracks already out there ....nice

Leñador -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 18 2015 22:52:41)

I don't understand what either of you are saying, I just wanna play some bulerias. [sm=Smiley Guitar.gif][sm=Smiley Guitar.gif][sm=Smiley Guitar.gif][sm=Smiley Guitar.gif][sm=Smiley Guitar.gif][sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]

Sr. Martins -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 18 2015 23:31:10)

El Kiko,

I can't force you to read, much less to understand what I wrote but your willingness just tells me it's not worth the effort.

I don't know how having all the entries in one track instead of separate ones would take anything away from the challenge but that's ok. I think I am out too.

Looks like it's going to be:

I would like to compose my thing on a given palo with Voting and My stuff on a collaborative track (record to a pulse/beat).

What palos would you suggest?

How about this for an idea. We evolve a track. Start with someone uploading some palmas or even cante, anybody can then record some guitar and upload. If someone else thinks that upload was good they add their stuff after it, otherwise they ignore the last upload and carry on from the last one they liked. So there's the voting, kind of survival of the fittest for chunks of the track. And when you record, you do what ever you like, old stuff, new stuff, throw in cante, throw in dancers feet, you could even change palo, you're free to do what ever, either someone will continue where you left off or your efforts die there. Then at Christmas everyone votes on which chunk of the track they like best. By the end there will be many different versions of the track, it doesn't matter, just do whatever you like. Darwinian duende.

Leñador -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 19 2015 4:28:17)

Seems a little chaotic but there's a great idea in there. It could maybe turn into maybe, a challenge for the forum to cooperate and we all see how successful it turns out, instead of a challenge for individuals to ranked...

Dudnote -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 19 2015 10:48:10)

A slight variation on the idea is everybody participating has their own working copy / version of the track. They can incorporate other peoples stuff into their own track in any way they like - could be as simple as copy and paste, or throw in another layer of palmas or jaleo, or bolt something on the end (beginning / middle) of someone else's. Everyone should try to upload something new at least once a week, no matter how short or little. The winner is the one who gets the most material into other people's tracks + gets the most of other peoples tracks into their own.

Final score = #chunks you play on appearing in other peoples tracks + #chunks of other people appearing in your track.

or something like that...

El Kiko -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 19 2015 18:50:22)

Sure i read what was written , but let me say something ...

someone makes a challenge ...thats ok ...but they have to do it ...
if they let everyone say what they would like in it ... 10 people will have ten different ideas ...until you end up with Dudnotes last post .. which , no offence , but no matter how much I read it , its so unnecessarily complicated , i don't even understand it ..
challenge should be simple

You pick something , an idea, that you think may be of benifit to all ..
you put it forward as an a challenge ..
how it will run
how it will end
you stick to that , and dont change it or it will start to go wrong ..
i think the biggest mistake here was starting with a poll..
everyone will vote for all options the longer you leave the poll open ... some will even ask for options you didnt put it ...

you want a cante challenge .,, or a Bulerias challenge ,...then grow some balls .. and tell people this is what it is gonna be ...
this is how it will work ....

any respected player would have less problems with the masses ..
look at the last challenge ....
John Walsh said .....play this ...here is music ..here is a video ....end of story ...

It was accepted ...

Honest .. i have organised quite a few challenges , and unless you got it straight in your own head , people will lead you here and there and add this and that ,,..
and as someone great said ....you cant please all the foro all of the time ....so dont try , or you may end up pleasing none of the foro none of the time ...

So you want to do a bulerias challenge ..great ...
tell us ...its a set piece ... like a Paco de Lucia Challenge maybe
or tell us we can write our own
or say it must include ..picado , or alzapua or something specific ...

You tell us , what you think is a good idea , and if it is ... it will have a good chance of happening ...

end.

Dudnote -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 20 2015 2:33:24)

What's complicated about "record chunks of what ever you like, upload it as a layer for a track incorporating other peoples stuff and let it evolve" ?

The idea was to try something original, dynamic, organic, spontaneous, new and fun.

El Kiko -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 20 2015 17:59:35)

exactly that ....

years ago ..there was a way of doing a challenge ..
of scoring , of points ...
lots were done ...it worked just fine ...

its not broken ..so ......

Dudnote -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 20 2015 18:41:53)

6/10 voters opted for collaboration. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that mean a democratic decision has been made to try something new? If you want to organise a traditional challenge then go ahead, I'll play something and support the thing. If you don't want to work on a collaborative track challenge then please go troll on another thread. What this thread needs is input from the voters who are happy to go along with the voting results, not the griping of a bad looser who has nothing positive to contribute towards making this happen.

El Kiko -> RE: Foro Challenge (Nov. 20 2015 21:12:08)

What this thread needs is someone to organize a foro challenge ...

as per title of the thread ..

LOL!

If Rui doesn't want to take things further here I'd be happy to try putting together a simplified / clarified set of rules and seeing what this idea could generate. But I can't do too much this week 'cause I've a concert this weekend.
