hi guys

I would like to ask you for help. Can you tell me in what ways rhythm in this song -that begins in 1:05 min - is different from rhythm in regular rumba ?

Ricardo -> RE: rhythm (Nov. 9 2015 19:04:22)

half time bolero style....then at lai- lo chorus they do double time (normal) rumba.

You count subdivision it's 8 strokes for both..

Half time accents are 1 and 5, the normal rumba has accents on 1, 4, and 7.

Hope that helps..

thanks ricardo for reply. I think I still have troubles to get it so my thinking is that maybe if I google ' half time bolero style' I can find this rhythm written somewhere in the internet.

Well, I found nothing.

Forget about the technique for now, just strum up and down continuosly, starting with a downstroke. You could just use a pick to simplify things. strums in capitals are the accents (strum louder):

Rumba: DOWN up down UP down up DOWN up

Bolero: DOWN up down up DOWN up down up

That's basically it for the difference in the rhythm.

Getting either to sound funky depends on *how* you play - little technique details eg muted strums, golpes, whether strokes are played with thumb/index finger/several fingers/how lightly etc ...
