Pimientito -> Flamenco for the Pope (Oct. 30 2015 7:44:52)

I was surprised and delighted to find that a friend of mine, Maria Jose Santiago had been invited to sing for the Pope in the Vatican this week. This is obviuosly quite a honour and it has made a lot of press in Spain. She was accompanied by Paco Cepero on Guitar. The performance was given to promote Gypsy culture in Europe.

The British press dont know the difference between "Opera" and "Flamego"

Beautiful, thanks. A big venue to convey emotion.

"accompanied by classical guitarist" too - doh!

but you know what it's like, unless it's got dancing it's not real flamingo...[8|][8|][8|]

is the blue and green flag at 3:15 the Roma/Gypsy flag?
and what about the yellow neckerchiefs?
some are wearing white with red or black lunares, some yellow (inc Paco Cepero), some with both (8:11), and one guy has white at 6:38 - anyone?

Interesting that Cepero was playing his Jerónimo Perez.

Your Spanish is almost certainly better than mine: but isn’t that Jerónimo Peña?

P.S. How nice finally to have a Pope that looks like your kindly uncle.

orsonw -> RE: Flamenco for the Pope (Oct. 30 2015 17:05:21)

Jerónimo Pérez

Very surreal, very old music, ancient papelcy institution and garb, swiss guard, and very modern architecture .... Great stuff though, willing to bet no Pope previous has ever had flamenco in the vatican.

Weird positioning though....side to side behind a column.......

Come on, everyone knows the Daily Mail is not a real NEWS paper. Not all our papers dish out nothing but tabloid trite - but sadly far too many of them do [:'(][:'(][:'(]

Thanks, Pimientito. What an honor! I was especially delighted to see that Paco Cepero accompanied her. While my all-time favorite tocaor is, and always has been, Sabicas, I have always favored Paco Cepero accompanying. He was great accompanying Santiago Donday on their CD album. But back to your friend. what a great honor!

Bill
