http://www.inc.com/john-brandon/15-words-and-phrases-millennials-use-but-no-one-else-understands.html

I had only heard a few of these--evidence that I'm old. That few is too much.

"5. I can't even"

That explains a lot. Seems like it is used as an expression alone. I always thought "why do they start the sentence and never finish it?".

I only knew 2 or 3 on that list. The rest are either too dumb or just a passing (still dumb) trend I guess.

Im a millennial, English is my first language and I've never heard of any of those words so not all hope is lost.

I'm not sure, I'm of the Generation X. I thought there was a Y, but maybe they changed that and now call them "Millenials"? I think it means people under 30, approximately. Maybe this is all a silly American thing.

Leñador -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 20 2015 23:19:41)

Yeah, Generation Y and Millenials are the same thing. There's no official age range but it starts around 1983, my year of birth.

What frightens me more that language usage is that if you were born in 1983 you could be my kid.

I don't worry about new language every generation comes up with these kinds of contractions, most of them don't stick into the greater spoken language. One reason is that media tends to use more basic proper English. It keeps leveled out.

On that score my generation and the two before it came up with plenty of stupid contractions and alternate words. We don't use them, and some of them have stuck...but the language is none the worse for it.

Are you sure he's the one?

Leñador -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 21 2015 5:30:21)

Stephan could adopt us both!!
What an international family! [:D]

Grisha -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 21 2015 5:32:57)

He seems frightened about it, so there is a good possibility you ARE his kid. At least that's how I read it.

BarkellWH -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 21 2015 5:51:00)

And what frightens him is he will be issued a court order to pay Lenny all of the unpaid child support that has accrued over the years.

Bill

Ruphus -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 21 2015 12:26:49)

I was around LA in 1983 too.
But no risk there, as it was in Orange County where the civilzed folks reside, while I was looking remotely like a hippy. Apparently to their perception sort of a wolf midst sheep. No target for traditional dating routines of local chicks. [:D]

Leñador -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 21 2015 14:20:01)

Hahahaha!! Don't worry Stephan, I'll absolve you of all back pay for child support. Your only responsibility will be to sit uncomfortably with me at family gatherings. [:D]

Miguel de Maria -> RE: More words I wish I'd never heard (Sep. 22 2015 15:32:38)

Lenny needs some child support if he's paying $2K for rent. That hurts just thinking about it.

Ye Olde Joke: What do you call a flamenco guitarist without his girlfriend?
