PetrucciFan -> How to sound like Paco (Sep. 2 2015 20:06:32)

Hey guys, I've got another question for you:
What's the secret behind pacos amazing tone? I suggest the guitar strings are very important, so which brand did he prefered?
And did he used a little bit of delay or chorus effects to make the guitar sound like that?
Thanks again.
PetrucciFan

ToddK -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 2 2015 21:55:20)

Yeah, definitely a massive rack of effects going on.
Delay, Chorus, Harmonizers, Pitch Shifters, etc.

I'm pretty sure he's using banjo style finger picks, the metal ones.

They are great for sweep arpeggios, which is what Paco's style mainly
consists of.

Is this rafapak using a pseudonym? The questiion itself, and the way it is posed ("Hey guys"), has rafapak written all over it.

I was thinking the same thing. See the other post about picks[;)]

Grisha -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 14:46:05)

Guys, do you really still believe Paco's using effects and picks to sound like that? After all these years, seriously? Wow... just wow.

To the original poster: Paco primarily used his fingers.

It was rumored his instruments were cryogenically treated!

Eat Tacos n sh**t... Dumb nice tone yo...

PetrucciFan -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 15:20:56)

I have the awkward feeling that I am not taken seriously.
Is it just me or are flamenco guitarists mean people?

Miguel de Maria -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 15:35:32)

I was like http://metaversemodsquad.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Internet-Troll.jpg

MikeC -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 15:39:12)

No, we are not mean people. This is a friendly forum with a lot of helpful people. But your questions are completely out of line, especially coming from a "professional guitar player". We get the feeling that you are mocking us.

As Lenador suggested watching a few seconds of Paco de Lucia videos on YouTube will answer all of your questions. Maybe you've only heard this kind of music once briefly and got excited. If that is the case, you can redeem yourself and we'll forget the silly questions[;)]

Cervantes -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 15:39:16)

Paco's tone sucked.
Moraito's was much better with his fake nails.

Come on, its so obviously a wind up!

'Flamengo', 'Paco de Luchia'.... honestly!

Just someone having a bit of mischievous joke, probably Jason.

MikeC -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 19:31:35)

That's what I think, but just wanted to given him "the benefit of the doubt".

mark74 -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 20:01:07)

In my experience flamenco guitarists are somewhat mean.

Paco's tone would come from a number of things. His nails, his guitar, the strings, the strength of his hands, the movement of his fingers, his personal technique, the acoustics of the room he is recorded in, etc

I think in the 70's Savarez were the preferred string, but I could be wrong.

damn it ... I knew ... i just bloody knew it ...and studio tech working in the background , i suppose ... and i sold my Korg multi effects now ....[:@][:@][:@]

tk -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 21:33:59)

Something similar was done on ALL Paco's recordings, if you want the truth. I am glad you asked this question BTW, I was itching to tell the truth all these years...

pink -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 3 2015 22:06:23)

You've forgotten to mention his Les Conde Paul-ocaster running into the Gorilla amp ..... no effect loop to achieve the quality tone with the racks. He was also a big fan of gutz strings by a company called fumbles...quality strings that ''makes you sings''. Each packet came with a free jigsaw piece.....collect them all and you'd end up with a picture of a big pink bird !
All the friendly users of this forum have expert and genuine knowledge of their chosen interest... no level of genuine ignoramus will be belittled or abused as kindness is our only way.
Peace to you and go forth and share your new found love PetrucciFan bloke, with the headbanger of the free world (including St Ives) and be a happy little wet franker.
Lots of love

Best

BarkellWH -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 4 2015 1:35:50)

The story, of course, has been told many times and has by now become legend. Paco achieved his unique sound beginning in 1969 when he traded in his Fender Telecaster for a Gibson Les Paul "Sunburst." from that point on, Paco's sound was beyond the capacity of anyone to match it.

LeƱador -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 4 2015 1:53:35)

Right right, that's when he met Al di Meola and it changed his life forever! Lol

Miguel de Maria -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 4 2015 2:55:01)

The studio processing is very important. Here is how Paco sounds without the recording engineer's wizardry:

El Kiko -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 4 2015 18:20:32)

i was just gonna put that link up ..who wants to sound like that anyway ...terrible ..
and yet strangely ...still better than me

estebanana -> RE: How to sound like Paco (Sep. 5 2015 1:52:40)

Petrucci fan, Who is the Petrucci you are a fan of? Just trying to get context on your screen name?

Also flamenco guitar players are rotten bastards who like to torment newcomers. Just over here to Uncle Steve and I'll sell you a nice $12,000 blanca to get you started. Hey that's a $5000.00 first timer discount. These Foro Pros they pay $17,000 for a guitar today.

You should be so lucky to find me!
