Ahmed Flamenco -> palisander vs wenge? (Aug. 20 2015 16:30:27)

hey guys,
which is better in working and better in sound and weight?
If palisander is fine I'm gonna use it for a classical guitar and a flamenco negra
What do you think?

Wenge is a strange wood. It splinters a lot, difficult to use. If you can deal with that it makes good bridges.

In a past life, I built furniture out of wenge and I agree with estebanana. I would be reluctant to use it for a guitar body.

Palisander is a little non descript as people use the term for a variety of rosewoods. Most namely Brazillian and Madagascan. These of course are well used and documented woods for guitar making. I would probably want to know the exact species If I were buying it. Both can be a bit of a pain to bend but only if they ripple.

I use wenge alot for bindings which is quite fun! It does splinter easily though so you have work factor that in when deciding how you are going work it. As I said in a previous thread about Wenge I have also made two guitar from it with no problem but again I think it comes down to how you work it.

When using a sander thicknesser a lot of the annoying problems that occur whilst planing disappear.

They will all make nice guitars though so it's really up to you!
