Hi guys

1. I am located in Manchester area in UK and wonder if you can recommend any places in UK where one can buy good quality flamenco guitar ?
2. I also plan to go to Spain to buy flamenco guitar and unfortunately there are direct flights from my place to Barcelona only. Can you recommend any places in Barcelona where one can buy good quality flamenco guitar?

Ha, Manchester, I miss her so bad! One of our luthiers here, Kevin Richards, is just down the road from you. If you search here for him you'll find some links to local flamenco stuff. I never had the pleasure of trying one of his guitars, but the difference between a factory and luthier made instrument, well what is there to compare?

Also, if you fancy a leason or two Nick Wilkinson, a student of Paco Pena, is a fantastic teacher. If you do meet Nick tell him I made the recommendation, he won't know who the hell Dudnote is, but it would be as funny as hell watching him try working it out.

Years ago Stockport Music had several flamencos, they even ran a cante accomp workshop once (well Nick did) when one of Cameron's cousins was banging around town. Don't know if any of that continued after Danny and his flamenco news letter left them?

For part 2...

When you get to Barcelona, write a hitch hicking sign that says "Beas, Huelva" and when you get there ask about for a guy called Anders Eliason - he makes wonderful guitars. Which reminds me, time to get off the foro and get back to my Anders negra [:D]

It depends on what your price range is really.

If you have a limited budget then London guitar Studio has a wide range of factory made flamenco guitars.

If you are after something hand made and have a nice budget then you could look around at various Luthiers in the UK and get something made for yourself. Kevin Richards was mentioned as being close to you. Pablo Requena makes a very nice flamenco guitar too. There are many others building flamenco though so it could be fun to look around.

Exclusive Flamenco guitars also in London stocks mainly hand made guitars from Spain.

Then if you are looking for something from one of the top top names then go to Kent Guitar Classics. I see he has an Arcangel Ferneadez, Two Gerundinos and a Reyes Sr.

Stephen has mentioned the main UK dealers I can think of (wish Kent would publish his prices for those guitars!), for Barcelona you are in luck, superb range at Solera:
http://www.flamencoguitarsforsale.net/ ..check out their Youtube channel to hear lots of these (not stellar recordings though).

Plus of course there's always Ebay, some nice guitars on there at the moment including two listed by one of the Foro's regulars.

As mentioned, budget is key consideration.

Well in York actually, a couple of hours by road or rail from Manchester.
I have a couple of my guitars available at the moment, a blanca and a negra, both used, for sale at around £1000. I'm open to offers.
If anyone is interested please send me a PM or email for more details

Hey Blondie, I am sure if you ask Miles he will let you know. I think he told me that he prefers not to display a price on some of the very popular guitars that are hard to come by. Even if the price is actually fairly reasonable.

I'm pretty sure you can fly to most parts of Spain from Manchester, not just Barcelona. e.g. there are several flights per day to Malaga, (unfortunately flights to Granada stopped some years ago, but its a nice drive anyway )

and I'd second the recommendation to visit Nick, I have regular lessons with him, he's a great player, and teacher, and a really nice person too

good luck

John

Yeah I should give him a ring, just being lazy really...

If you can go to Barcellona I suggest you to pop up to Solera Flamenca. They are the best option if your budget is 2000 Euro'or more. In case you can check what they have and book for an appointment through their website.
In Barcelona there is also a shop called guitarsforsale. I myself had a bad experience with these people as they sold me and delivered me a broken guitar. After my complains they entually took it back with no charge (but shipping costs). They were not people pleasant to deal with anyway, at least in my experience.
I'm sure in London you can find plenty of options.
A very good shop is also mundo-flamenco in Germany.
