For those of you taking and or given Skype lessons what is your setup?

Hi Crooks,

You can go as simple as your computer's built in camera, built in mic and headphones. I started like that. Then I got a small USB mic (Samson Go Mic portable usb mic) which I place close to me. I sounded distant in the recordings of the lessons. One day, when my computer was acting out, I used an iPad. It was suboptimal but it worked.

I use a Logitech C920 HD. The inbuilt mic would be Ok but I prefer to use my studio mic (Rode NT1A) via a Focusrite Saffire preamp for audio as its all set up in my studio anyhow..

I try to be practical about it. In my "studio" room I have my pc with a very good audio interface and nicer microphones. But the lighting is not good and I don't have a camera. In the other side of the room, where the light is better, my wife has an iMac which is what I use for Skype. The iMac has the built in camera and mic and they work fine. I asked Ricardo and he said that the video and audio were fine. He just needs to be able to see both hands and hear what I'm playing. I decided to get that cheap little Samson mic because I though I sounded "distant" when reviewing the recordings of the lessons. Headphones (any will work) are essential to avoid cut off audio, echo and feedback.

But I have to say that the audio coming from Ricardo's side is a lot clearer than mine. And that is more important for me.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will look for the Logitech or some equivalent and use my at2020 usb mic with headphones and I should be good to go.
