BarkellWH -> RE: El mejor cantaor de bulerias (Jul. 1 2015 3:23:59)

For my money, nothing beats those black and white videos from around '68 or '69 of a very young Camaron and Turonero (with Paco de Lucia, his back turned to the camera) singing and knocking on the table top with knuckles, and Paco Cepero accompanying. No fancy bells and whistles, no bass guitars and harmonicas. Just pure cante and toque the way I like to imagine it was performed in the cafe cantantes of a bygone era. I have always thought Paco Cepero to have been one of the great accompanyists and don't think he has received the recognition he deserves. Camaron sings with unmatched purity and beauty, and while I think Turonero is a bit more rough-edged in his singing, he is still very good. This is the flamenco I love to listen to over a copita of jerez. Bill
