tijeretamiel -> SOLD 1998 Juan Huipe Blanca (May 25 2015 15:43:06)

NOW SOLD

1998 Juan Huipe Blanca (£275)

I have for sale a guitar built by Juan Huipe, Paracho Mexico. The maker and instrument may not be familiar to many but I would compare the quality of this guitar to that of a student Francisco Navarro.

The specifications are as follows

Soundboard - Solid Western Red Cedar
Back and Sides - Solid Cypress
Fingerboard and Bridge - Cocobolo
Headplate/Binding - Cocobolo
Neck - Spanish Cedar
Scale - 658mm
Nut width - 51.5mm
String Spacing at Saddle - 57mm
String Height at 12th Fret - 3mm (can be lowered more if needs be)
Case - Soft Case

I would say the condition of the instrument is in good player's condition. Although there is some wear and dings to the soundboard there are no structural problems and it plays far above an instrument in it's price range and is a great guitar for someone looking to start playing flamenco.

I am based in London, United Kingdom and I would prefer either collection from SW17 or I can meet in Central London if needs.

If you have any additional questions please send a PM or an email to 'shubs dot golder at gmail dot com'

The address on the Juan Huipe label is on the same street as the shop of Arturo Huipe. I don't have Arturo's address at hand, but I vaguely recall it may be the same as that shown on Juan's label. Arturo's shop is in a good sized family compound with a spacious house near the street and a large two-story workshop and warehouse at the back.

Arturo would be in his thirties now. When I visited the shop in January 2007, Arturo's father was working there. I don't remember his name, but "Juan" faintly rings a bell. In that case, Juan would be the brother of Benito, who is Arturo's uncle.

I bought a cedar/cocobolo classical from Arturo. The workmanship and materials are first class. I'd say the guitar is on the borderline between a high end student instrument and a concert one--a good value for the money.

But not as good a guitar as the Abel Garcia spruce/Brazilian classical I ordered on that trip and waited almost three years for--a world class guitar in every respect.

Yes, there is a family connection with the maker of this guitar and Benito.

The guitar is still for sale. Price is negotiable and if you have a suitable offer please send me a PM.
