Yesterday, I wondered whether the little quote Eric Clapton was reported with two years ago after J.J. Cale´s passing, could have been all. And indeed, I found regular interviews in which he very sincerely honoured and credited the man. It also turned out that he gathered Cale´s friends and made a dedicated album with both covered songs and composed ones in Cale´s style that was released a year ago. There were a couple of excerts from the album and I found them to be surprisingly good. I have never been fond of the countless covers from all the bands and interprets, as none would come close to the originals, neither was I all too excited about the Tulsa album that Cale and Clapton made together. (Lame copies of Cale´s stuff.) But the snippets from "The Breeze" sounded so good that even the covers seemed worth listening while the new compositions seem a true enrichment to the discography. - And all with great sonics! It made me ask friends abroad to get me that album, and thought the ones among you who have a weak spot for laid back rock might be interested in checking out too, in case of that you havn´t heard of this release yet. Artists who participated have been: John Mayer, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, Derek Trucks, David Lindley, Albert Lee, Reggie Young, Don White, Doyle Bramhall II, Don Preston, Christine Lakeland, Greg Leisz, Jim Keltner, Nathan East, Jimmy Markham, David M. Teegarden Sr., Mickey Raphael, James Cruce, Jimmy Karstein, Jamie Oldaker, Michelle John, Sharon White, Simon Climie and Satnam S Ramgotra. Ruphus
