I put this Hannabach Flamenco 827 MT set on my Mundo Flamenco guitar, and I quite like the sound and the tension of the set.

But I can't believe: after few days the trebles start to delaminate (little fibres coming off here and there). I had this phenomenon only with cheapest fluorocarbon fishing line material yet. And this with a set that sets you back 16,90 Euro!

Hmmmmm?

Do you have anything on your nails? That might be the problem.

They might be covered with stuff like elixir and daddario exp strings?

Who offers trebles covered with stuff?

exp's aren't covered with anything, not even the basses.

They are delaminating close to the nut. No nails on left hand, frets well polished, no sharp edges ...

I had quite a few diferent treble sets on the same guitar, including also fluorocarbon strings, never happend before...

Maybe they didn't like the saddle material or the way it is cut.

If you use a piece of metal for instance as a slide on nylon trebles, they'll get all "hairy" pretty quick.

Thanks for your attempts to explain it, but is along the fretboard, not exactly at the nut, just not on the side where you would use your nails. Also I didn't use a bottle neck or anything else of this kind. I do use a capo (planet waves), which I have used on many guitars and kinds of strings wthout ever hurting a single one...

I thought we were speaking about basses... exp and elixir basses are covered with a thin film so they are supposed to last longer. At least the EXPs for steel string guitar are coated

The coating on nylon exp basses is inside the wound.. which sounds kinda pointless anyway. [8D]

Last year I had problems with a Hannabach D string. I called the company by phone and a very skilled woman. She asked me to send it back to have a look at it for quality improvement. I sent it back. 2 days later I had a substitute in the mail box incl an appologize letter. So I´d recommend to get in touch with Hannabach.

that's simply not true. And before you start an argument on that, just do a quick search on it.

Your problem with the trebles are not an exception, and not stands alone so to say. I had the same experience several times with Hannabach. (no sharp edges, no nail problems etc) I think it has to do with the material used for the trebles, or an inproper technology on using that material. You may noticed it's a multifilament nylon vs. most of the trebles are made from monofil fibres. Of course that alone shouldn't make a problem, 'cause you can find very good multifilament strings, the EXP is a good example of it.

And as I wrote it in another thread, these prices are VERY subjective, and not represent quality most of the time.

That's a good idea. I'll try it again.

I did it once with classical strings, but they wouldn't admit they had quality management problems, tough many people were complaning about intonation problems with a very expensive bass set. They sent me a replacement by a much cheaper bass set...

rojarosguitar--as I recall the 827 strings have the peach color nylon trebles. Many years ago I used 827 strings although in the lowest tension and found them to be functionally OK--that is they did not fall apart. Assuming the first fret is not causing the problem (rough edge) it could be the strings came from a bad batch
or possibly were mishandled at the factory. You might want to contact the seller to see about an exchange. If the problem occurs with the next set then look for the cause elsewhere--be it your frets or the strings themselves.

Don from D'Addario here - our EXP sets - for acoustic, electric and for Classical have a micro-fine coating on the wound strings. The technology we use is unlike what our competitors use. Everyone has a different means by which they apply their coating.
