I am a total beginner to Flamenco and bought a cheap guitar on CraigsList today. Perhaps it was a mistake, as there are a few small cracks, but it was only $150US. The Cedar smelled so good, that's what sold me. Trying to find some info on the guitar, as I could find nothing 'out there' on this model. I know it's a cheap factory guitar, but there appears to be some life left in it. The rectangular label is tan with a red decorative border. It says "Constructor de Guitarras Sanchis Carpio, CALLE FOC, 10 VALENCIA, HANDCRAFTED IN SPAIN, No 011-1, Ano 1986, Mod. 3AF". It seems to have Spruce top, Cedar back and sides, Cedar neck and Rosewood neck overlay. It has the exact same rosette and label as on the Sanchis Carpio 2a on the Lasonanta site. I had seen on the internet. Can anyone tell me a bit more about it? Is it a solid wood guitar? I know the maker has been around for many years/generations and made/makes some fine guitars. This is NOT one, but I thought it might make a good 'couch' guitar, since my 7 y/o son with knock it over sooner rather than later. Is it worth fixing the cracks, or should I just play it as is? $150 is a steal, nice work. I wouldn't fix the cracks if they're just cosmetic. Post some pics. I think you've got yourself a great guitar to learn on.

Thanks. The guitar was in sad shape when I got it, but I cleaned it up a bit and most of the sticky gunk came off. There was a couple of stickers on the back, but they came off fairly easily. Unfortunately, as I was taking off the strings one of the tuners, which was bent, broke off. I ordered a new set. Since the strings were off I did a more thorough cleaning of the guitar. I treated the fretboard and buffed the frets, etc. The rosewood got much darker, which is nice. I'm slowly humidifying the guitar and the cracks seem to be closing up quite a bit. I may get them glued, eventually. I posted one picture, above, after wiping it down. I'll post another when I'm finished with it. It might not be worth much, but I'm happy about saving it from the wood pile.

That is a good deal assuming there are no major problems and it sounds decent.
I would have snatched that up for a second beater guitar.

What happened to the upper golpeador? Was it an evil pair of scissors? [sm=tongue.gif]


It looks like the high E string hole is in the wrong place, you might want to take care of that too.

I don't know what's up with the golpeador. It's got a funny curve, but I think I might just leave it. They seem pretty glued on pretty seriously. I think the E looks that way because the nut was loose and pulled a little to the north, I think. I can't do much until the tuners come in. I've been looking around and I'm pretty confused as to what a Sanchis Carpio is. There are so many 'Sanchis' out there...Vicente, Ricardo, etc. Mine is only marked 'Sanchis Carpio'. The only other time I saw the label was on the 2a listed on the Lasonanta website. If anyone has more information, please fill me in. Thanks in advance.

I don't know, you'll have to check it but... looking at the tie knots, they seem all over the place.. just look how close the low E is to A for instance. Grab a ruler and check those holes before you assemble everything.

Thanks. I just took a look. All holes are 10.1mm on centers. Not sure what that means, but they are evenly spaced. Maybe I need a new nut, too? My budget for the project is $250.00, so we'll see how close I get.

Thanks. That's an interesting thread. I wrote to the Sanchis shop and sent them pics of the label. Perhaps they can shed some light. I wonder if their student models were contracted to another factory back in the 1980s? It sounds like they weren't that big of an outfit 30 years ago. It's really doesn't matter anyway, for my level of playing and the money spent, it's more than fine. With little work, I know I will play and love this guitar more than any new guitar in the $250.00 price range.

Yeah, maybe it's just the picture. Anyways, to stay on the safe side and avoiding taking the strings off again after you set it up.. did you measure at the back of the tie block or at the front?

I ask this because they can be all even at the back but coming out at different spots on the front (which is where it really matters).

Thanks for all the information. I have scoured other places on the internet and I still can't find out much about this Sanchis Carpio 3F model. I wrote to the company but I haven't heard back yet. The general consensus on websites is that the 3F was discontinued some time ago. Some say it was the same as the 2F, but with slight imperfections in the wood and lower grade tuners. When I get the guitar together I will post several pictures, as it seems to be an unusual low-priced student model and may be of interest to some here. Thanks again.
