One of my greatest mistakes in life has to be not to have spent more time in Andalucia [&o]

I've never been, but I've heard this place in Seville is good

This is a cultural center that puts on flamenco shows by students from the local academies. Apparently it is a relatively small room so you are close to the artists, the quality is very high and the price is relatively modest. What more could you want (appart from Agujetas himself)?

No doubt Spain and flamenco will be the high point of your trip, Shroomy. There is a fair amount of flamenco in the south of France - many Spanish settled there in the time of Franco. In Nice you can see a Centre Andalucia as you come into town (from the west) on the train. There is a large festival there, but I think you missed it already this year. Then in Arles there is a large gitano influence, you could try contacting dance schools etc there to ask what is going on. This festival sometimes includes flamenco acts http://www.suds-arles.com/

The shows are top notch, specialized in "traditional" flamenco. Don't be put off by the large number of tourists, it's well worth the visit.
If you pass by in the afternoon, you can pick up tickest for the evening show.Find out more here

Plenty of places to go in Sevilla and Granada. I'd also try to visit some peñas and maybe you're lucky and you can see some good stuff there! You speaking Spanish will make it a whole lot easier, if you bring your guitar even better :) at least you'll get some info there.
Maybe you can contact Paco Navarro thrue FB in Cordoba, he's got a school there amd is a really nice guy.
I know your not planning to visit Malaga but it's pretty close and there is the Bienal flamenco this year so you might
want to check it out.

Hi Lionel,

If you need some advice on Normandie, let me know, I visited the place with my son to see all the beaches and sites.
Saintes mere Eglise is a nice place. The Hotel "john Steele" named after the soldier who was hanging on the church tower,is a nice hotel to investigate the surroundings.

We went here last December.....yes its touristy but the one hour show is fantastic and the venue is small and is also a museum of flamenco guitar started by guitarist Jose Luis Postigo....big smiles all round....we loved it!!!

Casa de la guitarra is cool, especially because it's a guitar museum essentially. It's very intimate for shows, pretty cool. Casa de la memoria was pretty good too. My favorite was El Carboneria, el Arenal was pretty good too, least favorite was probably Los Gallos. But then again I'm judging everything on the talent I saw that particular day so it could vary. All top notch tablaos though....

Don't expect to see much flamenco in cordoba. There's good amount of flamenco in Granada and in the nearby villages, and also in the coast. Most Peñas flamencas can be found by google. If you go to sevilla, jerez is one hour by train, cadiz about two hours. But even in Jerez, you need to speak to aficionados to know the opening hours of the flamenco Peñas and know what's happening and where. I was three months in Jerez and while there is alot of aficion of the art, there is not that much flamenco that is open to the public(you need to have friends to get access to some of the flamenco happenings), which was a surprise to me. There is of course the flamenco festival and the flamenco week in jerez, but in general would be nice if there was stuff happening year round.

The Mont-de-Marsan festival has a great reputation. Lots of stars, lots of students doing courses and flamenco spilling out on to the streets.
