Dudnote -> Adios Compañero (Apr. 3 2015 17:36:35)

Here are the three letras form Beni de Cadiz's tientos Adios Compañero (available on Grands Cantaores du Flamenco - Vol 17)

lo busqué de sol a sol
se escapó el guarro herido
y en el agua apareció
cuando lo di por perdido

como arte la siento yo
y herencia de antepasados
que con el hombre nació
al verse necesitado

adiós compañero mío
te digo de corazón
gracias por haber venido
a compartir mi afición

The first and last letras are not problematic for me, they are poetic and strong. Me gusta!!

But the second letra makes little sense to me. This is what I understand

Like art it seemed to me
and inherited from ancestors
that when a man is born
????? necessary

So my biggest problem is with "verse". From wordreference.com I found
versar - be about, deal with
ver - see, watch

So is it something like "that when a man is born, it is necessary that he will see" or "that when a man is born, he will also see"?

I'd translate it pretty close'to yours, the last line is something like "to be needed" I believe.

I’m not Spanish, so you’ll probably get a better reply, but in the meantime:

• herencia = inheritance

• Verse is not a noun, but the reflexive form of the verb “to see”; so, literally, “on seeing itself as necessary”.

(A similar thing occurs in the title track of Camarón and Lucía’s first album, Al verte las flores lloran: On seeing you, flowers cry.)

Hope this helps.
