Hi Just joined this wonderful forum, my problem is I have just purchased a "prudencia saez" flamenco negra which has had a "ding" at the back cracking the finish I have read that these cracks can be filled with drop of some sort of super glue can anybody out there help would be a great help thanks jim.

It's a forgiving finish and there are many ways of doing touchups but putting a drop of cyano acrylate may or may not be the best solution. Without seeing the ding it's hard to give advice but generally I would prefer drop filling with lacquer over super glue.

There is a chance the finish used is not lacquer but catalyzed polyurethane (CPU). I looked at the Prudencia Saez site and they use the word, lacquer, for all of their guitars--from the least xpensive (about $700) to the most expensive (about $1600--excluding the electronic models). Many companies use the word lacquer when the actual finish is CPU which is a different beast than lacquer. As for doing the repair--unless the ding is the size of the Grand Canyon it might be best to leave it alone and make up an entertaining story about how it got there.

One way to test for lacquer is to wet a Q-tip with acetone and touch it to an inconspicuous place such as the back of the peghead or inside the slots. If the spot becomes tacky then it is most likely lacquer. Lacquer dings are best repaired by drop filling with lacquer. If it is polyurethane, (acetone won't soften it) CA or superglue may be your choice for repair.
