Goldwinghai -> Duty and Taxes importing from Spain into the US (Mar. 20 2015 13:53:47)

I did a research on this subject and found the 2006 post having good information. The duty rate was 8.7%. But it was 9 years ago. Has any member of the forum living in the USA bought a guitar from Spain in the last several years? If you have, what are the duty and the tax rates?
Many thanks in advance.

Why don´t you ask at the customs authority? They should be able to give a quick response.

Thank you for your suggestions. According to this web page (revised in 2014) of the US Customs and Border Protection, the duty rates for imported musical instruments is from free to 6% for countries that have normal trade relation (NTR) status with the United States.

That´s `about the same´ of what we have in Europe, which is close to 30% plus tax&duty on shipping expenses (with the "logic" of the latter position having always been beyond me). [8|]

USA, the shopping paradise.
(You even get European products considerably less expensive there, with the manufacturers owing their countrymen an explanation as to why their stuff becomes less expensive about 12 000 km away from home.)

A few of the Spanish guitar makers have representatives in the USA.
You select the guitar and they take care of the issues of customs ,etc
so it makes it much easier on you. I know it was an advantage not to have the customs worry .

I just picked up my guitar at UPS. The custom tax is USD119 on the guitar + case cost of about $1550.
