trivedi234 -> RE: Sanlucar 2015 (Apr. 7 2015 9:29:34)

may be may be not

I have my reservation since its now shorter than before (only three days [&o]). I fear it will be just cosmetic and nothing productive.

The course runs 13th - 18th July... http://www.cursoflamenco.com/english/cursos.htm

Its always lasts a week. If you havent been to Sanlucar before then its hard to explain exactly why its so special. Both Gerardo Nuñez and Carmen Cortes have the philosophy that students have the opportunity to join in with top flamenco artists in an informal way and this allows people to study with real artists and jam with top names.
The teachers are names such as Jorge Pardo, Rafael de Utrera, Cepillo, Antonio Carrion, Tino Van der Sman and of course Gerado Nuñez and Carmen Cortes. During the week students are completely immersed in classes and fiestas on a 20 hour per day Basis (24 hour per day if you are Ricardo). Over the years we have had many people drop in on fiestas such as Manolo Sanlucar, Moraito, Diego Carrasco, Pepe Justicia etc. There are concerts during the week with top artists...and the famous sherry tasting courses that Gerado used to insist his students take. One year the whole guitar course got lost in a bodega!
Apart from what you take away musically, is the feeling of comradery between the students and I am proud to say I have made many friends for life including many foro members from my experiences in Sanlucar. Its probably the most fun flamenco course in the world so forget your reservations....its the highlight of my calender.

Than I am in the wrong thread probably[:)], I was talking about the Mano sanlucars workshop at Cordoba guitar festival "Naturaleza y Forma de la Guitarra Flamenco". Usually it used to be one week but this year its just 3 days. Anyway good to know about this one, thanks for suggesting Graham and Pimientito.

Pimientito -> RE: Sanlucar 2015 (Apr. 8 2015 11:10:53)

Manolo Sanlucars course is more formal and academic. Firstly you have to send him a sample of your work to apply. He does a lot more talking about his playing and composition. Its more like a master class. There are no extra activities but as its usually during the guitar week in Cordoba there are lots of concerts going on.
The Sanlucar course by contrast is much less about theory and more about playing and also has a certain amount of craziness attached to it that for me is part of its appeal.

trivedi234 -> RE: Sanlucar 2015 (Apr. 8 2015 12:25:18)

I was more interested in knowing and interacting with Manolo, since he unlike Paco has always focused on articulating composition (than technique) to make some sense or convey something. All of his students from Vicente to Chicuelo seems to have inherited that quality.

Anyway I have still to decided whether to take such short term workshops or to invest in a long term course like cirtina herren. I am at an awkward stage right now, any advise here would be really appreciated. I am basically interested in getting serious in flamenco and make a base as a musician which so far I have not been able to do due not dedicating enough time.
